Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I noticed some times when I was driving home in the afternoon and the sun was almost directly in front of me, the cars coming towards me would create a shadow straight ahead and it was like the car would kinda disappear. I kept thinking that lights should be mandatory around then. When I get out of my Lancer the lights just turn off automatically and then turn on when I get in the car so a lot of them time if it's not full blue sky awesomeness I just leave them on full and drive around in the daylight. And part of that goes back to this article I read where it talked about people being more aware when they see lights than just the car.

An option that the driver/owner still has to select.
The worst is the silver car on those dreary grey mornings where the car virtually disappears against the grey pavement.
I ran into this with a green car that blended in the with the bushes and tress along the side of the road. I was on my bike, and was literally seconds away from crossing the street, when I finally noticed it and stopped.

Yeah and ridiculous lights that impersonate the sun

Cars have lights that impersonate the sun?

An option that the driver/owner still has to select.

Do they? Mine has automatic daytime running lights, and I don't recall setting that anywhere. I just thought they were the default.

ETA: Ah, did some Googling. Apparently the Motor Vehicle Safety Act mandates that all vehicles sold or imported into Canada after December 1, 1989, must have automatic and non-switchable daytime running lights. So I guess they are the default here, but not elsewhere.

What if you went to bed and when you wake up you find you are in the same place, in the same world but there are subtle differences like a moved birthmark or something that you didn't notice before. Hey this is the random thoughts thread after all.

Blame all the workmen in blue suits.

Technically, it is the law in Texas that you are to have your lights on when driving in the period that is between thirty minutes before sunset and thirty minutes after sunrise. But I doubt anyone has ever enforced that.

I see plenty of cars driving in the dark with just the daylight running lights on, which means their rear lights are not on. Depending on the car, the daylight lamps are not as bright as the regular headlights.

Then there are the idiots with their brights on all the time...

I have a relative who is slow to act, slow to commit. If you need to leave for someplace at 8, he's the type of person who starts doing something else at 7:55. Just thought it was funny how he wishes everyone a happy birthday on Facebook days after their birthday.
