"Radio Voices" You Like to Listen To

A companion to the other thread. Any "radio voices" you enjoy hearing?

Nationally I like Garrison Keillor quite a bit. The tone of his voice and his style of delivery are almost musical at times.

Locally, here in the Seattle area, Dave Ross on KIRO-FM has a good voice, IMO.

Definitely Freberg. A master of the medium if there ever was.

As a teenager, I liked listening to Larry King. This was when he'd do the show just about all night long. As an interviewer, he was also very ggod at being egoless. He asked questions, and let the author, comedian, artist, politician, whatever speak. When he did the call in segment, then he could switch into "love the sound of my own voice" mode, which was appropriate. There are few personalities in the media capable of doing that. It's usually "all about me" because they're building their brand name by promoting themselves.

I find it comforting to hear first the "My City Was Gone" guitar riff he uses as a theme and then his voice as he does his monologue. I find his voice a breath of fresh air in a wilderness of political correctness.

Also, they got trashed in the companion thread, but I actually like Opie and Anthony (though not enough to pay for satellite).

My all time, number one favorite: NPR's Sylvia Poggioli. I could listen to her 24/7.

Locally, we have a weekend DJ on our local country station whose voice I love: Melissa Gaudette.

Ah yes, the "Voice on loan from God." Though I'm not personally a big fan of his, he does have a distinct radio voice.

I also have enjoyed Scott Shannon's voice, though not being a big Hannity fan, I tend to ignore that he does the voice over for that show, preferring to listen to him on the True Oldies Channel affiliate near me.

I could listen to them read the phone book and it would be awesome. I may be a Giants fan, and the Rivalry is still very strong, but I cannot in my right mind rip one of the best announcers in baseball.

Our local PBS station recently aired a really spiffy doumentary about Keillor called The Man in the Red Shoes. Some really interesting stuff behind the scenes at A Prairie Home Companion, and some about Keillor's life. Hope they run it again so I can get it on tape.
