Race to Witch Mountain question

I was wondering if RtWM is a straight up remake of the original Disney Witch Mountain movies, or is is a sequel to them?

I've read both on the internet. Some say its just a remake, while other are saying it takes place 30 yrs after the original.

I suppose it could be both, I never really thought about it. I guess I originally assumed it was a sequel. Either way, it really doesn't affect things too much, it is a fun family movie, but I liked the original better.

The way I interpreted it is that it isn't a direct sequel, but it occurs within the same "universe" as the originals, just a few decades down the line.

I haven't seen the originals in probably twenty years, when I was a kid, so I don't remember much of anything about them. However, I did catch the cameos of the original kids in my first viewing of the movie; I think it was a little obvious, even to someone who didn't grow up watching the originals.

I heard they had cameos but the studios cut their scenes in the theatrical version?

^ No, the sheriff at the local pub was played by Ike Eisenmann and the woman who helped them sneak out was played by Kim Richards.

I never knew until recently that Kim was Paris Hilton's aunt. I think she might have been my first childhood crush(Kim not Paris).
