R.I.P. Ricardo Montalban

^^ Yeah, there's no mistaking that beautiful voice.

Ricardo Montalban had style with a capital STYLE. What incredible charm and charisma. His performance as Khan stole the show (both the first and second times). And, along with Herve Villechaize, made Fantasy Island one of the most perfectly cast shows in history.

RIP, Mr Montalban. :(

R.I.P. Mr. Montalban.
thank you for creating one of the most cunning Villains ever.

F.Y.I. Corinthian leather means...
Corinthian leather was a phrase invented for marketing use to describe the leather used in certain Chrysler luxury cars in the 1970s. In this case, "Corinthian" does not actually indicate any relationship with Corinth nor any specific type of leather and was added simply as a linguistic cachet.
The first use of this term was to describe the leather in the 1974 Chrysler Imperial, but the best known use of this term is from the advertising campaign for the 1976 Chrysler Cordobafeaturing celebrity spokesman Ricardo Montalbán
Although many misquote Montalbán as saying "rich Corinthian leather" or "fine Corinthian leather" in the commercial, he actually says that "soft Corinthian leather" is an available upholstery option for the car.
Corinthian Leather is a marketing term that does not actually indicate any particular type of leather. Furthermore, Montalbán confirmed this during an interview with David Letterman admitting that Corinthian leather means "nothing." According to one reference, Chrysler's "Corinthian" leather was mass produced in a plant in Newark, New Jersey

I remember seeing an interview where he mentioned how much pain he was in due to his back problems. I always admired how well he handled himself despite that. He was a class act whose charisma and distinctive voices and mannerisms were magnetic. I'm really sad about this, but I am happy he lived a long and successful life.

It's so strange to see most of the places reporting on his passing mentioning "Mr. Roarke" and neglecting "Khan". One of the few I've seen mention that role was the news goddess of a local radio morning show, and she's a known science fiction / fantasy fan.

TV Guide's website mentions Khan. I also think E! online does too.

But I know what you mean.

So two iconic actors from shows associated with mysterious islands have died within a day of one another. Sad.

RIP Mr Montalban. I'd be surprised if even Eric Bana takes your title as Greatest Ever Star Trek Baddie.

Strange from our viewpoint, but he did play Mr Roarke for something like eight years, while he only played Khan twice.

RIP Mister Montalban.

I'm going to go watch Star Trek II in his honor.

Already have done.

One of the oddest appearances of that unmistakable voice was on MST3K. In the episode "Hamlet," Montalban is the voice of King Claudius in the English dub of this bad East German TV production of Shakespeare.

I'd also like to give a shout out to his villainous voice over role as Gutierrez on Freakazoid.
