R.I.P. Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier)

I'm sure they'll do something, like The Wormhole says, a dedication maybe. Be nice if he got a mention if they ever do a Unit story again in the near future.

The Doctor- I was saddened to hear about the brig passing

Sarah Jane- Yes, he went out fighting zygons in Peru.

Or something like that.

The dedication could be at the end of the first episode.

while a funeral would be nice, it'd be hard to make it not feel like a retread of 'Death of the Doctor'.

isnt there something written about all the Doctors being at his funeral?

Could make for a fun multi Doctor story, fine Matt Smith is no problem, push the boat out and you may get Tennant, the rest you are just going to have to have people at the back out of focus, or the Doctors around his grave at the end of the episode.

Still the 10th Doctor, 11th Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, at the funeral would be good, also great to have Benton or Harry appear as well, can Liz Shaw pop back from Moonbase?

They could animate I suppose, actually whats to stop Big Finish doing this with its roster of classic series characters?

You know, and I might get shouted down for this, but I think there's something slightly iffy about doing something big and grand for the Brig's funeral. At the end of the day the Brigadier hasn't died, the actor who played him has died, and I sometimes think the merging of fact and fiction can end up somehow demeaning the actual truth of the event.

For me a dedication, and a nice mention or two of the brig would be a really nice tribute.

I definitely think they need to reference it in SJA given that he was actually in the show.

How do you make a somber event like a funeral for a Knight (and he was, Sir and all that), light and bubbly? A real funeral on Sarah Jane just doesn't work with their formula. Most of the kids watching the show probably have no idea who the Brig was, or that he even knew the Doctor. Beyond a tribute card being shown, I don't see what they could do and still keep it light and bubbly.

There's no reason for a mention on Torchwood, or that K9 spin-off.

So it would have to be in the "mother series" ... It's probably far too late to have anything more than a title card there as well, since they are close to filming the end of the season (if they haven't already).

If anything would happen in an episode, it would most likely be off-screen. The Doctor gets the call, leaves Amy and Rory wherever they are to return for the funeral, we follow the companions and then he comes back at the end of the episode, mentioning seeing all the other Doctors and a few name-dropped companions. It might work for the Doctor-lite episode, if they are going to have one. But again, it's probably too late to get something in there for this season. And waiting til next season, by then what's the point?

since McCoy and Scotty are still going strong in Trek novels years after the actors died, why kill the Brig off?

Fair point!

well I don't know about that, Courtney was in SJA, he never appeared in the new series, so actually the kids who watch Sarah Jane and Who probably have a better idea who he is than those who only watch Who?

RIP:wah:.....He was like a friend to me in my teenage years in the 80's :techman:......There was just so much that I could identify with in his character. The "Old Chap" was classic to me.....Even now...My teenage boys love his character. You could imagine my surprise when the internet really took off years ago, and I was able to do searches on Doctor Who and find out the current status of former actors...AND to learn that as a man he was just as Charming and a Gentlemen in real life as his character the Brig . Knowing he is no longer here in this realm with us leaves a deep hole in me :weep:. My SINCEREST apologies and best wishes to ALL of those who were even more privileged to be his family and friends :weep:. As a side note....I read the comment that Tom Baker made of him on his official web site ... and it was very fitting and heartfelt ...PLEASE PLEASE let this be a serious message to not let the remaining actors of the OS go to waste :censored:.

Nicholas..."Old Chap" I will never forget you and you will always be dearly missed by me and others.
