R.I.P. Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier)

I remember watching Pertwee and Baker Who on PBS as a kid and I always loved when the Brigadier and UNIT was part of the story. One of my favorite characters. RIP, sir.

Definitely. It's sad enough that he passed. Why oh why didn't they ask him to appear on nuWho while he was alive? Instead, a wasted appearance on SJA.

Mr Awe

I disagree. No appearance by the Brig is wasted. Any opportunity to see him, even "one last time" like this was, is a great opportunity in my book.

And in honor of Nick's passing, I've ordered his UNIT miniseries from Big Finish.

One of the reasons that I got hooked on Dr Who in the 70s was the interaction between Pertwee and Courtney. They are both missed. RIP Brig/Nick Courtney.

I was sad to read that Nicholas Courtney had died. I really liked watching the shows he was in. At least, he was mentioned by the 10th Doctor. He really played off the Doctor really well. Hopefully he'll be mentioned in 11th Doctor show the actor or his character. I hope his character is keep alive till he is 100. The 7th Doctor mentioned it on the show "Battlefield."

The UNIT years are my favourite era of the show and I'm very sorry to hear of the death of Nicholas Courtney.
I would like it if they could acknowledge the Brigadier's passing on Nu-Who and its spin-offs. I was thinking of an episode with a scene of a memorial service for the Brig' with every surviving actor associated with the character present as well as writers and directors and producers past and present inserted in the congregation ala the epsiode of The West Wing with Leo's funeral. What they would do about the Doctor, ie would it be Matt Smith or another Doctor, or even more than one I don't know, but that would be what I'd like to see if possible.

He didn't die, old soldiers never die. They just fade away....but as long as he lives on in our hearts, our dvds and fanfiction the Brig lives forever. Let's hope they do a tribute to him in the new series

I like that idea. They got Katy Manning to reprise her role in the last season of the Sarah Jane Adventures, so that shouldn't be a problem. Add Sgt. Benton, Cpt. Yates and Liz Shaw and of course Sarah Jane and you're set.
It would probably be just Matt Smith as the Doctor, although they could use the scene as the starting point for a two Doctors adventure. ;)

I like the idea of a big gathering for his funeral. At the very least, it would make a good DVD extra scene. I don't know how practical it would be to do an episode, though, since I'm not sure of how far ahead they've already commissioned scripts. If someone sat down to write this today, could they even have a shooting script ready in time for this season? And wouldn't someone else's stuff get bumped?

But I guess they could just add a scene into something already set on modern-day Earth, too. So who knows?

Very sad. I was hoping for an appearance in nuWho but sadly that chance has now gone.

Considering he first appeared with William Hartnell is a testiment to how much he loved the show.

Gonna go watch The Dalek Master Plan 2 now...

I once wrote a few pages of fan script of the Doctor arriving in a field and belting across to a large stately manor, to be greeted by Liz at the door, and then had a big goodbye scene with the Brigadeer on his deathbed.

Can't remember which Doctor I associated him with.

As nice as a funeral for the Brigadier sounds, I don't think it can be pulled off in time for the coming season. Logically, all I expect is:

-A dedication to Nicholas Courtney in the premiere.
-A character in an episode set in the future making referance to "the Lethbridge-Stewart Monument" or something similar.
