R.I.P. Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier)

I just checked the BBC Doctor Who site, and there's still no mention of his passing. I hope they are going to give him the acknowledgement he deserves.

Maybe they don't actually have anyone to include it yet, or something else as it's only lunch time here and I find it highly unlikely that they have a dedicated web team for the Doctor Pages on the BBC website.

Very sad news. He was a big part of Doctor Who, I enjoyed every story he was in. I loved the first time The Brig entered the TARDIS, the look on his face was priceless.
RIP Brig, you will be missed.

Good bye Brig. He was a great actor and worked well as a contrast to the doctor. I am sure they will the first episode of the new series to him.
I am sure he is enjoing a pint where ever he is.

Goodbye, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. You brought joy to this kid's life through 7 Doctors and many, many years.

I didn't know this even existed until now: around the time he appeared in Sarah Jane Adventures (or possibly before or even after), Courtney filmed a "mini-episode" as the Brigadier that was released as a bonus feature with the DVD release of Mawdryn Undead. Called "Liberty Hall" it takes the form of a faux BBC interview with the Brig. as he remembers his adventures. In tribute to Courtney, it's been posted to YouTube.

I'm actually never certain whether we're allowed to post links to such material here. I've seen people spanked for it before. So to avoid any problems, I'll just say go to YouTube and type "Liberty Hall brigadier", or better still buy the DVD! ;)

RIP Brig! It is an utter fucking shame that they never had him on the new show. I mean, outside of the usual "Doctor\Companion" thing, I don't think there's ever been a character at the same level of the Brigadier. I know they can't cameo every one who was once on the show, but c'mon....the Brig is the only character to have known so many different incarnations of the Doctor!!

As OmahaStar pointed out, the Brig would have met the 10th Doctor (as Sarah Jane's best man) if Nick's illness hadn't got in the way.
An icon from my childhood, a great drinking companion on a few occasions later on, and always cheerful and funny with everyone. He'll be much missed.

I hope so. It might also be nice to see the new series acknowledge the Brig's passing in some small way.

Such a shame to see him go. Talk about bringing gravitas and weight to a role! And what a voice, too! He was easily one of the reasons why the Pertwee era is so memorable.

*salute* Brig, you served your planet well.

The man was a legend. Even in later life during his DVD commentaries he could remember details that a lot of other people couldn't. Great value.

As a child I was too young to really remember him. I remember him in Mawdryn Undead but didn't really appreciate his character till much later.

Seeing him in the Sarah Jane Adventures was wonderful.

All the folks in Geneva will be sad tonight. The Brig won't be calling for instructions anymore <:-(

Dear god, this is a terrible loss. :(

Someone said the following last week on Gallifrey Base and I have to share it here: "The Brigadier is The Doctor's best friend. Nick Courtney is Doctor Who fandom's best friend."

Rest in peace, Nick. :(
