R.I.P. James Garner

Just heard. Very sad. Have to say I haven't really seen much of his work. Main thing I remember him from was Space Cowboys. :)

RIP.

Oh, man. This leaves me feeling as beat up as Jim Rockford on a case. He was such a cool guy, both on Maverick and Rockford Files. I especially liked him as Jim Rockford-- he was always broke, beat up, and beat down, but he kept on going and won out in the end.

RIP, pal. :(

That's so very sad, and spooky at the same time. Friday afternoon I was in a shop and looking at a box set of The Rockford Files and was thinking of getting it. I didn't in the end but yesterday I went on the 'net and read excerpts from a book about the making of The Rockford Filese and watched a documentary on Youtube about Garner and now today I read he's died.

Between The Great Escape (1963) and The Rockford Files (1974-80) and with just those projects alone he did more than enough to keep me entertained over the years. That doesn't include all his other film and television roles over the decades, and we'd be here all night pointing out every great moment of his epic career.

Rest in Peace, Jim. You did good.

Oh, that's sad.

He'd have been a massive movie star had the old studio system not being falling aprt as he came through.

A very likeable and charismatic actor. He will be missed.

Damn. My wife's a Maverick fan, and I really liked him in Rockford and Space Cowboys. He will be missed.

R.I.P. James Garner

I know his TV-shows are pretty legendary but I personally remember him the most from his work on movies, such as The Great Escape, Fire in The Sky, My Fellow Americans..and so on.
a Fine actor who could both drama and comedy with ease.

For me, it was Rockford.

He would've made a good fleet admiral...or at least a loveable rogue freighter captain.

The Rockford Files was something watched weekly in our household growing up. Space Cowboys was the last movie we saw together, just the four of us in reunion. James Garner was one of the draws there, when we were deciding what we would see.

Looking over his filmography in Wikipedia, I see that his last credit is as the wizard Shazam in Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam (2010). That's going on my list to check out.

Rest in peace!

If you have never seen him on Eight Simple Rules after John Ritter's horrible death you are missing out on acting gold. To be sad and funny at the same is amazing, he works so well.

He just seemed like joy and fun in a human. He will be horribly missed.

RIP Jim

Rockford is on MeTV today at 6pm

Going to watch some of his old war films and since I've been on a submarine kick "Up Periscope"

Jim Rockford & Bret Maverick are gone, but will never be forgotten.

Slick, Suave, and Smooth until they got Beaten hard, Broken down, & Busted Up.

The Rockford Files & Maverick are shows that my Dad and I bonded over when I was a kid since he never really got into Science Fiction. I loved them both. And it gave us something to talk about.

James was a Joker of all Trades through and through.

He could do it all. Drama and Comedy.

He was a master of THE LOOK. (Like... Oh really?)

I've enjoyed many of his films over the years:
The Great Escape
Support Your Local Sheriff!
Support Your Local Gunfighter!
The Distinguished Gentleman
Maverick
My Fellow Americans (Probably one of my top Comedies of All-Time)
Space Cowboys

And despite the tragedy that was John Ritter's death at such a young age, he really did a wonderful job on 8 Simple Rules.

James Garner, truly a LEGEND in both Television and Film.

He Will be Missed.

Another film, I'd like to bring up that seems to have been largely forgotten, is a film he did with Sally Field in the 80s called "Murphy's Romance."

It's a film I happened to start watching on HBO one day with nothing better to do and got sucked in. Garner's performance elevated what looked like a standard issue "chick flick" into an affecting film about aging, romance and friendship. In fact, he was nominated for an Oscar as best actor.

If you haven't seen it, it's worth checking out.

The very first, completely unedited episode of The Rockford Files is posted on YouTube along with others from the series. It's worth a look.
