Quinto on ST4: 'I'm not really attached to it anymore'

"It's already thriving in the television format with Discovery and Picard and the spinoffs," Quinto said. "I can't even keep track of how many new Star Trek stories are being told since our last film in 2016. All I know is that we, all of us, had an incredible experience making those films. If there is an appetite for more of those stories with us in them, I'm sure that we would all be thrilled to come back and do one more or whatever, but I'm not really attached to it anymore.

And now that Viacom has re-merged with CBS, there really isn't as much of an incentive for Paramount to make Trek films when the shows are bringing in the dough. Hence Pegg's remarks awhile back. '

During this hiatus, I'd really love it if Paramount would just remaster the original films, especially during the pandemic. It's kind of a bummer to watch what are essentially dated HD masters, especially with that DNR on TUC.

The trilogy was a novel and interesting look at an "extended" alternate universe scenario (with Spock Prime there to ground it). It would of course be fun to see another adventure, but if it never happens, we'll always have ST'09, ST:iD, and... S.T....Beyond (blah). Yes, the studio dropped the ball on this potential franchise restart.

It's sort of interesting to note that, by the time any such hypothetical movie would hit the screen, we'd be as far from ST'09 as TMP was from the Cage. Of course the actors are about a decade behind in age as compared to their TOS counterparts.

Anyway, I've paid my respects to the Paramount quasi-reboots, and am perfectly happy to embrace the new CBSAA adventures that appear on my TV box (yes, I'll even give Lower Decks a shot).

I consider Beyond to be the highlight of their trilogy, so I'm totally cool with that being the end of it.

I'm happier for it to keep to the TV.

The sad thing I'd take away from this is that with Ethan Peck playing Spock there's very little chance of getting Urban to play Bones in the TV shows.

I don't see why. Regardless, I prefer Peck's portrayal to Quinto's

I've never been much of a supporter of these films except for 'Into Darkness', with that said they had a successful film in 2009 which they didn't capitalize on.

Well, I would be disappointed if ST:Bey was the last Kelvin-timeline Trek (I’ve loved all the movies in this trilogy).

It wouldn’t be the ‘end of my world’ so to speak, but I had high hopes on the fourth movie eventuating - especially after all the tooing-and-froing / speculations / on-then-off-again - so I won’t pretend not to have invested somewhat in a fourth movie.

can't blame him. The way the studio has handled the thing after beyond is discouraging to me and I can imagine it's even more so for the cast who constantly gets mixed messages. It's obvious that Zachary would like to make more movies, he always said that, but what he's supposed to do if the studio doesn't move forward and actually makes them? and I also get it might seem discouraging when you see that tv trek is getting all this new stuff that it feels like there is an oversaturation right now. The cast might also feel a bit like tv trek took advantage of the success of their trek, in a way using it to their own advantage and even taking inspiration from it, and now they are taking over because the studio wasted the movies by not making more sequels in a timely manner. The merger doesn't seem to have changed things much, it should've happened years ago before tv trek was stuck in ostensibly making stories about the prime timeline only.
I don't think those in charge with tv trek right now would like to see more kelvin trek movies. Something tells me they might see them as a hindrance right now (see Kadin comments) and they must hope no more movies are made for a long, long, time.

Funny, I was about to write exactly the same thing. I had my problems with the trilogy and even with some elements of Beyond, but looking back at it with some distance now I feel it was the most entertaining of the three movies, closely followed by the first one. And as that I'm not sure if I really need another one of them.
