Quick Star Trek VI quote question

Xerxes1979

Captain
Captain
did the Romulan ambassador's line of "there will never be a better time" make it into the final cut?

I don't own TUC and youtube is not being cooperative.

In general did this character have more dialogue that was shot and later cut?

The line is there in the copy of my DVD. I think he may have had one or two more lines in the Director's Cut.

It was not in the theatrical cut but it is on the various DVD's. It's part of the scene where Colonel West meets with the President.

It was never in the original theatrical cut of the movie but is in all the VHS and DVD edits of the film that I've seen over the years.

Yeah, VHS and DVDs of the movie have him saying something like "They are vulnerable. There would never be a better time."

I don't think it's in the BluRay copy, We've been playing it at work and I think the BluRay copy is actually the theatrical cut, and is missing the West Briefing, the Scotty "klingon bitch", and "This is not klingon blood" scenes.

You're right. Out of curiosity, I put in my ST:VI Blu-ray and ran it to each of those points and they weren't there.

Hm.

I was disappointed as I like the addition of those three moments, but it makes me wonder if we are going to get double dipped and there will be "Ultimate editions" of the films with the directors cuts at some point down the line. Perhaps three disk individual editions with both versions of the movie on disk one, special features on disk two, and digital download on disk three, or something like that.

I will say this; the movie looks spectacular on Blu-ray.

Indeed, except for one part that caught my attention today... When the enterprise is "sneaking" into klingon space to rescue Kirk and McCoy, the listening post which asks the enterprise to identify itself, the klingon display screen looks very pink, and not the red it should be.

Really? I didn't notice.

Speaking of odd color changes though, I did notice on the TMP disc that there's a scene where the Enterprise and the insignia on the signage (dry dock) goes green.

That's interesting. To my knowledge, that's the first time the theatrical cut has been released on home video. Even the first VHS version that came out was the extended cut.

So, the Blu-Ray version also has the 'The Romulan ambassador and others' line restored that was lost in the 'Director's Cut' DVD?

I don't know why fans get so angry about reissues, and brand them as "double dipping".

The shops demand new product. Customers also demand new product. The shops eventually put all their old, dusty releases onto bargain tables to make room for new product and, if we want Star Trek to continue to maintain a viable presence in DVD shops over the next few decades, then CBS and Paramount must keep issuing slightly tweaked, improved versions of the ST backlist, even if it's only cover revamps, extra bonus scenes, new commentaries, or newly-added features.

So, the Blu-Ray version also has the 'The Romulan ambassador and others' line restored that was lost in the 'Director's Cut' DVD?

The closed captions read, "Romulan... Ambassador... Nanclus...", confirming what my ears had always heard in the theatrical cut during its cinema run.

Although many fans will still claim to hear "... and others" instead of "Nanclus".

I probably should stay out of this particular Vietnam... but it's, and has always been, '... and others'

Not out to force the issue or anything, but I too have also heard it, with my own ears, whether it be the VHS, DVD and now the Blu-ray, as "Nanclus".

The script, and the closed captions of the most recent release (which preserves the theatrical cut on DVD and Blu-Ray for the first time ever), say "Nanclus".

I heard Nanclus as well.

Every other character was mentioned by name and rank, why wouldn't Nanclus be too?
