I don't hate VOY, but it is the series I am most disappointed with. The idea was interesting and had the potential to show Trek characters at their best and worst as they struggled to overcome all the odds to get home, but they kept missing their mark more often than they hit it.
Rather than the gritty "realism" that DS9 had it became TNG-light, with no real sense of isolation or danger, as the reset button solved any potential growth of the characters.

It lacked some originality. It failed to live up to its potential. It was simply more of the same. Some of the characters were very weak. Some of the actors lacked conviction. Some of the stories were just regurgitated TNG stuff
That said, it is much better than its reputation and while TNG and DS9 have started to look more and more dated with each passing year, Voyager's dark, sleek, slick interiors still look futuristic and sexy as fuck
There are some quality episodes in there.

I don't "hate" anything in the franchise, but I found VOY to be overwhelmingly mediocre. It was a watered down version of TNG essentially (while TNG itself was already a watered down version of TOS). So, it was very derivative and stale unfortunately.
If the writers had taken risks that the new format and setting had opened up opportunities for (maquis/federation tension, dwindling supplies, uncharted regions, unknown species, etc), it could have been another bold step like DS9 had taken. Instead, it represented a step backward in creativity and freshness.

Aren't all my posts evidence enough of my deep, infatuated, often sexualized feelings for Voyager?
Must I produce even more evidence of VOY's camp, comedic, colourful wonderful place in the pantheon of Treks?

And to the OP: People also hate ENT and I've met many people not of this BBS who hate DS9 for being too dark, political, not on a ship (surely the dumbest reason ever).
But meanwhile there are heaps of people who love these shows deeply.
The thing with haters is they like to inject their hatred of a series into their posts all over the board, swipes and sarcasm and statements that act like it's a fact that X series sucked. So the hate pervades and can seem to be more universal than it actually is.

Agreed. The VOY sets were my favorite and they still look sweet today. Beige was never my color.

I don't hate Voyager. I think it is largely average.
It was disappointing because it created expectations then did not live up to them. It makes it especially frustrating that it seems the show could have lived up to those expectations, but various people chose not to, opting to be intentionally average.
The show didn't try its hardest to be great and wind up average. It tried its hardest to be average, and wound up average, leaving hints that if they had instead attempted to be great, they might have succeeded.

Sometimes I get the impression that people need something to hate. It can be a character or a series or anything.
I'm very critical to some events in Voyager which actually ruined the series for me but I don't hate it. On the contrary, I still love the characters, the premise for ths show and the first seasons.

I can't understand the constant bickering about Voyager from certain fans.

I think Voyager and Enterprise are pretty much neck and neck in letting down Trek fans with a high-concept that it never delivered on.
In both cases the selling point was to inject more wild-frontier-spirit into what had started to become too much of a well-trodden prime-continuity universe, but they couldn't quite break away from the paint-by-numbers Berman-era TNG formula.

I'm afraid you hit the nail on the head. Both being lost and alone in an unexplored part of the galaxy, and the formation of the Federation, were great premises for series. Unfortunately the execution of said shows did not match the premises.
Unfortunately hate, a raw emotion, always gets a lot of attention. I'm not sure that Voyager was hated as much as maybe it appeared at the start of changing demographics that saw a rising popularity of crappy reality shows. There were quite a few characters and themes I liked from Voyager, from Nelix to the holo-Dr. to the concept of being alone in a vastly different area of space. All-in-all a good series, although not without their stinkers - but every series had those.
When Voyager was on the air, I said the same thing I say about Community season 6.
