The novelverse "present" (at least for TNG/DS9) is 2384, and Countdown is set in 2387. Not that far to go.

Although I suspect those years won't pass nearly as quickly as the ones preceeding it have.

Maybe Data/B4 just needs a good reboot. I hear J.J. Abrams is good at that.

By the way, The Needs of the Many dealt extensively with Data's return and its technical background. It could work in the main-novelverse, too, I (naively) think.
