Question about The Lives of Dax

Art Vandelay

Captain
Captain
A short but potentially complicated question...

In what way, if at all, do the various stories in The Lives of Dax inform/enhance the experience of reading the DS9 relaunch?

Thanks!

Obviously, the background of the Dax character informs what you see of Ezri in the relaunch books. One highlight is seeing exactly how Ezri got the symbiont. I've seen lots of complaints on the DS9 board about how useless Dax was on the series, but you probably won't think that after reading this anthology.

One of the stories ties directly into the later Mission: Gamma books and Unity.

I figure that Marco put it on the relaunch list for a reason. The best reason to read it is that the stories are actually pretty good.

By the way, I love your user name, Art!

That particular story is "Sins of the Mother." And the DS9-R novels may reference bits and pieces of Dax's background as told in the other stories from time to time.

Doesn't a character from "Allegro Ouroboros in D Minor" return in a couple of DS9-R novels, albeit in a new host? So that's at least two stories with direct tie-ins/sequels.

Voyages of Imagination lists 'Sins of the Mother', 'Reflections' and 'Allegro Ouroborous in D Minor' as the stories that are 'integral' to the DS9-R.

How is "Reflections" "integral" to the post-finale books? I don't remember any obvious connections (granted it's been years since I've read the anthology).

I don't want to spoil it, but I think a character and concept featured in "Reflections" play a significant role in Trill: Unjoined in Worlds of DS9.

I very much hope we will meet Gard again! I found both Gards, past and more present, very interesting indeed.

"Gard! Make sure the symbiont doesn't leave this room until I come and get it."
"Not to leave the room...even if you come and get it."
"No, *until* I come and get it."
"Until you come and get it, we're not allowed to enter the room."
