Question about episode Facets

Captain Kathryn

Commodore
Commodore
One of Jadzia's main reasons for wanting to speak to Curzon during her zhian'tara was to find out why he washed her out of the initiate program and why he didn't object to her being let back in.

If she had Curzon's memories before her zhian'tara, why wouldn't she have already known the answers to those questions? Especially the fact that he supposedly loved her as well. The fact that those memories and feelings were present in the Curzon-Odo means that those memories were also present in Jadzia before they put Curzon's consciousness into Odo.

I love this episode very much, but it seems like quite an obvious plot hole unless I am missing something??

I have pondered that too. I decided at some point that sharing memories does not mean that the new host gains access also to those memories that are suppressed. Anything truly traumatic, for instance, would need to be revealed therpeutically whether the memory belonged to the current host or it came from a past lifetime.

But obviously those memories existed in the Curzon-Odo which were transferred from the symbiont inside Jadzia which means they once existed inside Jadzia.

But yeah I guess they don't have total recall. Obviously not or else she would have known the answers to her questions all along.

It's also mentioned that part of the joining is learning how the current host and the symbiont personalities can "mesh" properly, otherwise the symbiont is more likely to overwhelm the host personality. Ezri alluded to some initial confusion when she unexpectedly had to become the new Dax. So it makes sense to me that it's probably not a total recall but something much more nuanced.
