PSN down thread

Some news it seems...

Sony has revealed in a blog post this morning the PSN will be back online by 4 May, although not all services will be fully functional by this date.

Wow, a lot of doom and gloom here. The breach with Gawker was dramatically worse and as far as I know, they're still in business.

Let's not forget the Apple/AT&T iPad thing among other breaches of security where names and numbers were out there and on torrent sites for everyone to see.

I dunno, maybe I'm being very naive, but it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

If they released the passwords of 77 million people in plain text along with their usernames and email addresses, that's pretty damn serious. Think about the number of idiots that use the same password for everything.

It looks like when the network goes LIVE again, you will need to download a new firmware update and a mandatory password change. Also this is their way of saying sorry it seems...

Sony announced its "Welcome Back" program worldwide, giving all existing PlayStation Network users 30 days of PlayStation Plus for free. The PSN members who are already part of the PS+ program will also get 30 days free to their accounts.

^ It's a service that gives your early (or exclusive) access to betas and demos, free games (PSN, PS1, and minis), Qore (interactive magazine thingy), DLC, game trials, and a few other things (free avatars and themes).

It costs $50 for a year (though they often have sales where you pay for 12 months and get 15 months). I've been a subscriber for almost a year and I think it's totally worth. I do game quite a bit though.

Well this is true, but for the aforementioned idiots, well then a little bit of the responsibility will fall back on them. And if even they do use the same password in several places, then somehow people will have to know where else you have accounts in order to use that password. I'm not trying to downplay this, I'm just saying I see where Firehawk is coming from and pretty much agree with him.

Sony seems intent to lose customers due to shite security, they might as well just go out and buy everyone a 360 slim

If they wanted to buy me a new slim as a sorry i certainly would not say no....free hardware, the nirvana of the tightfisted. LOL

;) Indeed though I do plan to upgrade my OLD 360 model this year because of Disc Tray problems and for the £80 they want to fix it I might as well buy a brand spanking new slim model £149.99...though I guess it will cost a little more due to the transfer cable am going to need for my HDD data

Why not use a USB stick, worked for me(I went through seven 360's)...i had no issue moving content from one 360 to the other via a 8 gig USB stick.
