PSN down thread

For anyone who having this issue...

If you downloaded the tokens but it didn't let you download the games, and then the tokens were gone DO NOT PANIC ;)

Customer support reveals that anyone this happens to should go to the XMB --> Account Management --> Transaction Management --> Service List --> SCEA Promotions (or your associated region). Then choose the token and download the content.

Yeah, certainly seems to be futile to let everyone downloading like that at once. It's like letting the bulls out at the rodeo. Mayhem will occur because the gates were opened all at once!

Works like a charm.

Yeah i had to do the service list thing to get them but it worked....Downloading Dead nation and quest for booty as well as the free stuff from PS+

Any suggestions one which PSP game I should get (besides LBP)? There's ModNation Racers, Killzone: Liberation and Pursuit Force.

unable to get account management to even come up.

Way to go Sony.

Sony P.R must make Microsoft piss themselves with laughter because they have been just bad over the last several weeks. I can't wait to see how they try to gloss over the last month at E3 next week.

Ehm...
This has nothing to do with P.R.
Just with milions of people wanting to download the free stuff and/or any DLC from the past month...

And it's per account, so i selected Stardus HD with my USA account...

^ Sony handling of the whole matter of PSN being hacked has been nothing short of a minefield of awful press for the company. They were so silent over progress about the return of PSN and even had conflicting reports from their own press guys who are supposed to handle the story, a clear sign of a lack of communication within the company.

Millions of people are overloading the service but Sony should know this because a teenager could work out what happens when you bring out this type of package to the entire globe at once. Sony should of brought it back slowly, region by region to control the flow of traffic better.

They should be smarter than this.

Way to go Sony.

Over two months of pent-up sales, downloads, etc. all hitting within a few hours? Give me a break, they're just overloaded right at the moment, which should hardly surprise anyone.

Bullshit. Few people outside of X360 Fanbois are blaming Sony much for this. It's only very unreasonable expectations by almost-informed fanbois who think they know how technology works that have fueled the internet for the past two months.

It's been painful for Sony, yes, but most reasonable people know that they got hit pretty hard and, rather than blame Sony, have probably looked at their own security issues and took some real precautions.

I got some news for you, both MS and Nintendo upped their own security systems as a result of the attack on Sony, which is only prudent.

I can only compare them to the other major player in the online gaming market. When MSFT rolled out their spring update for Xbox Live recently, they staggered the update, apparently linked to specific users, so that everybody wouldn't be updating all at once. One of my co-workers got his update over a week before I got mine.

So it can be done, Sony chose not to. Now it's a cluster fuck. That's on them. And before you start, no I'm not a Xbox fanboy, I'm actually quite happy with my PS3. But as Jax said, they have BADLY mishandled this whole affair from start to finish.

I don't think Jax was blaming Sony at all. I think he was saying that in general, Sony received some bad press due to the hack itself. Wether they were responsible for the problems or not is irrelevant, because any kind of hack for anyone is going to cause everyone to re-evaluate any kind of product or services anywhere. It's a hack. Companies that are hacked receive bad press for what happen to them because it's like a black cloud hanging above them and people start to question integrity and security. It's human nature. It's like someone with a black eye. People will see that black eye and know this person was in a fight and it will stay with them for awhile, both the stigma and the black eye itself, until it disappears.

In fact, I think he was saying the same thing you have, that it's all down to network traffic being overloaded. He only was wishing that they would do do it via region rather than let everyone download at once and overloading the servers.

Any recommendations on which free games to download? I already own inFAMOUS, and the other four don't sound terribly interesting to me.

TY Owain for actually reading my post properly ;)

Based off your response Vance I can only assume your a Sony fanboy ey :p, I am neither & I own both consoles. Even with the hack I lean more towards the PS3 over the 360 these days anyway. The hackers are idiots and should face a stern jail sentance but Sony are also idiots for having sub standard security by all accounts.

I was also trying to make the point Sony has handled the affair poorly in terms of how they got information out to the gaming press and the community as a whole. You had their own guys who deal with the press giving out conflicting reports at one point about when PSN would be back and were contradicted. Just sitting there bowing your head and keeping very very silent is a bad way for any company to deal with any story because it fuels bad rumors which even if its not your fault can damage your companies reputation.

The way they brought back the welcome back package so everyone flooded the servers at once was niave at best or just poorly ignorant at worst.

Edit - As a siodenote I got my PS+ earlier and had to go through the account management way but downloaded Dead Nation and I am now downloading Infamous though its 7GB so it will take a while...So glad I recently upgraded to 20mb internet speed.
