PS3 Yellow Light of Death

Yeah, it's been a well known problem in the gaming community for a while now. Watchdog are a bit late to the party with that one. It's nowhere even close to being as common as the 360's RROD, though. It seems to be a problem that mostly affects the early 60GB models.

That seems a little fishy to me. No mention of how small a fraction actually have issues, nor a comparison to the far worse record of the 360. How many products do you know that even have a one year warranty?

Just watched the program and i have to say what a train wreck, if there was indeed a issue with the PS3 then watchdogs utter levity towards the whole situation have done nothing to high light the issue, and i don't know how happy i am to see the BBC repairing other people's faulty PS3 with my licence fee money......and what about watchdogs stated facts.....2.5 million PS3 sold worldwide, PS3 cost £400, did they not do any research at all before the show, plus from what I'm seeing this issues seems confined to the 60gig models for some reason.

On the upside for Sony they were replacing all faulty PS3 free of charge right up until March of this year so anybody who bought a PS3 in 2007 effectively got a free 2 year warranty, but that don't help those poor buggers that got a fault after March.

On the subject of warranties i think all electrical items above £199 should in this day and age come with at least a free two year manufacturer warranty as standard, if a company is confident in its product it should back that up in its warranties.

Watchdog stopped being a consumer awareness programme a long time ago, preferring instead to be Jeremy Kyle for middle class shoppers. It's sensationalist garbage and not to be trusted.

^^^^Tell me about it, they had a whole segment on it about a guy on it who claimed to be able to cure cancer with his hands, now you would think this would be a walk over to prove him wrong......but no, the piece ended and there was some doubt as to his claims......not that he can cure cancer, but the way the show handled the whole thing left some doubt into his validity with the way the piece ended.

Terrible show now, if watchdog were to do a piece on global warming it would be full of ice cream, deck chairs, sun lotion, sandy beaches and a summer holiday type song to round it all off.

My PS3 (early 60gb model) just died with TYLOD today :(

Worst thing is it swallowed the new Wolfmother cd and won't spit it out.

My launch 60GB died of YLOD a month ago, I took it to a local shaman and he fixed it for me.

Then died again a week ago. In fairness it's had to put up with crazy power fluctuations and outages, so I have to say it isn't unexpected and I'm surprised it lasted this long.

I ended up buying a Slim of Amazon US and asked my sis to bring it over for me when she comes to visit in Nov.

Red ring of death, yellow light of death, and disc read error of death.

Quality does seem to be slipping.

My PS3 YLODed with Karate Kid III in the console, some would say it was for the best, but I love me some Karate Kid.

Give this a try, place your left hand on top of the Ps3 and move it in a anti clock wise motion while chanting "switch on", then place your right hand on top of the PS3 and move it a clockwise motion while chanting "power off".....do this a couple of times and see if it eventually stays on, then you can eject the disc out...if not at least you will have a very shiny PS3.

Well this was the first time the PS3 YLODed, I got it fixed by a shaman and made sure never put KKIII in it... actually I'm not sure what's inside right now...

I have seen people on forums use a hairdryer at the back of the Ps3 for about 20 Min's on full heat and it seemed enough to get the machine to work again for a limited time, allowed them to get their discs out and back up all there saved games and stuff......

If you have a hairdryer it might be worth a try, not much to lose seeing its already dead.
Hairdryer trick

Most of my friends along with me and my brother have PS3's. Not heard any of them having the YLOD yet... I have a launch 60gig one too and so far so good.... does make you worry a little though.

I don't think the slims have been affected at all by the YLOD, just the older 60gb ones for some reason.
