Provoking traffic offences, common outside sweden?

Knowing Ares as I do, I think I can safely say that after hitting the moose he climbed out of his truck to shout and scream obscenities at it in the vein of "YOU'RE A DISGRACE TO THE MOOSE COMMUNITY YOU INCOMPETENT BASTARD!!!"

Quite understandably the moose, not possessed of the self-control that a traffic officer tends to have, became aggressive and attacked him after being provoked by Ares' outburst.

I'm pretty confident that this is actually how it went down.

Certainly luckier than the poor moose.

Look where you're going in future!

People like you should get pulled over by the police and reminded to pay more attention to the road!

In the interest of playing devil's advocate, if there's ever a deer or moose or something in the middle of the road, it's usually impossible to avoid them, even if you're watching where you're going.

That means you're going too fast, generally.

Have you ever been on the highway and had a deer run out in the middle of the road? It has nothing to do with going too fast. Deer just don't know how to obey jaywalking laws.

Absolutely.

Avoiding a collision with a moose doesn't necessarily mean swerving around one, it could just as easily mean stopping before you plow into it.

I'm reminded of the infamous elk-test failure of the Mercedes A Class when it was introduced.

Don't tell me this doesn't look like fun because we all know it does!

Yes, actually. But if you see a deer by the side of the road, it's probably a good idea to slow down in case it makes any sudden moves. I live in northern New Jersey so I have deer jumping out in the road all the damn time, and I know enough to slow the fuck down.

It's even worse up in the mountains, where you have lots of blind corners. But, again, it's all about speed. I don't mean that every accident involving a deer is easily avoided by slowing down, but you can't tell me a lot of those accidents don't happen because people are just plain going too fast.

Just enjoy it for what it is or don't read it.

Shouting obscenities at traffic officers, catching paedophiles, now fighting wild animals. Ares is hysterical.

Why on Earth would anyone take this stuff seriously?

Psst! Triple posts are rather frowned upon.
Really?

I think I can just about live with the shame.

Sandoval, I know you have this little back and forth going with ares, and I find the situation amusing as anyone else, but can you drop the smartass remarks toward others who are just commenting or giving you advice?

I'm quite aware that Mr. Sandoval doesn't take anything seriously. But for the others who are buying his bullcrap. I have BE (Heavy passanger car w/ trailer) and CE (Heavy lorry w/ trailer) certification. I was driving an 1995 Volvo FH-16 Extended, carrying an Ur-Quattro, an Amazon and various parts an tools, early morning on a 90kph highway and i was driving at between 65 and 70 kph. The lorry had passed the MOT with blank papers a week earlier. Like my instructor told me the first time i drove a lorry. "Your lorry might stop, but the ten ton cargo behind you definitely wont." He scared the living daylight out of me that day. I'm never, ever, speeding when i drive a lorry.

This wasnt my Mercedes or my team's 205GTI. To quote Tom Paris in Voyager, "Faster than light, no left or right." When you drive something that big and that heavy, you can't expect it to handle the same as a car. Anyone whose driven a lorry can attest to that.

Well, sure, if you see a deer on the side of the road, slow down. I'm talking about the ones that you don't see that dart out from behind trees and houses at full speed.

I was driving through a neighborhood a few weeks ago and a whole family of deer suddenly appeared from behind a garage. I'm lucky I was far enough back to hit the breaks, but even going 30mph, I probably would have hit them if I had been a little farther up.

Moose do worse damage to trucks than cars. When you hit a moose with a car, you have a better chance of clipping it at the legs and drive under it. A truck will hit the body head on and the body will land in the cab. Nasty stuff.

The Swedish people are a kind and industrious people. We respect the government of Sweden and its authority.

Allow me to confirm this. I was going about 35 MPH on a highway onramp in a suburban area, and a deer abruptly jumped out in front of my rental car. I had time was able to tap the breaks slightly but couldn't slow down quite enough. Knocked into its legs in mid-leap across the road. Deer ended up on its side and departed the area under its own power; I had two large dents in the rental hood to explain. I was lucky it wasn't much worse.

Actually its the opposite. In most cases the moose falls through the windshield and into the of the car when you clip its legs. While on a lorry you hit it head on, yes, but it will impact below you.

There was indeed pretty serious body damage to the lorry, but it was drivable. And i got away with barely a bruised shoulder.

^I just looked that up and you're right. I guess Mythbusters or some such group debunked that. I assumed it was true because an old Mainer friend of mine had mentioned it. Logging trucks in northern Maine have a hell of a time hitting Moose.
