Personally, I just assume that the "there's no money" stuff is a load of crap spouted off by people like Picard who want to come across as morally superior. We see plenty of times in Trek evidence of money, commerce, private property, etc. From Kirk talking about how much Starfleet has invested in Spock and Spock starting to spout off a dollar amount in reply, to Scotty buying a boat, to people buying and selling tribbles, to Beverly buying a bolt of fabric, and on and on. Money clearly does exist in the Trek universe.

I wonder if the Federation gets lots of people just living in holosuites, like Jake did for a while in DS9 "It's Only a Paper Moon". Seems like it would be like a drug, might as well move to Talos IV. But there are apparently holosuites all over the place.

I've always wondered how that was supposed to work. Even with the level of technology they have in the 24th century, I can't imagine a way of doing that where it wouldn't be a MASSIVE disruption to ocean life.
And, mind you, by that point there are multiple aquatic-based sentient species in Earth's oceans (e.g., beluga whales, the humpback whale descendants of George and Gracie, etc.). I would think they would have some objections to having an entire area of the ocean shifted in the same way there would be a whole lot of pissed humans if we lowered Australia into the Pacific.

The scientists would probably take an "Adam and Eve" approach, breeding the whales again to produce the opposite sex of their first baby, then breeding the babies. Further time travel would be inadvisable unless another crisis demands it.

It's ironic in a way, as a parody show ("The Orville") had put some actual thought into how such a society could work, yet the show in which it is parodying had put in almost zero reasoning into such a concept. A season 1 story and in a season 3 story, from what I recall.

The technology existed. One generation of cloned whales, followed by subsequent natural breeding programs and using generic manipulation to correct birth defects would be easy.

To a certain extent, that might be irrelevant to my question. Some properties are expensive because their breathtaking view is in demand. If every property is capable of having a breathtaking view, then what does that do to property values that traditionally have been influenced by breathtaking views?
The same would be true with personal transporters or transporters within easy access like a bus stop. If every location is less than a minute or two from the beach, then how does that affect property values influenced by location?
By the 24th/25th centuries (especially by the 31st) holotechnology is advanced enough that all anyone really physically needs is a booth large enough to stretch out in. Holodecks and holosuites can simulate owning a huge mansion. Everyone could have their own private beach, mountain, pool, tennis court, gardens, etc... True, that requires running the holodeck for hours at a time. In that case and in a Federation that uses money, what one saves on rent or mortgage is shifted to paying for the holodeck power usage.
Perhaps users are conscious of power use and how one's use affects others' ability to access it and other powered services. So you can set a timer (you need not have the lovely scenery hologram on when you're sleeping) and alerts when you go over a certain threshold (which would curtail holoaddiction, as well)
