Prometheus-Did anyone else like it?

I had a chance to see the movie "Prometheus" on opening day. Being a fan of the first two Alien movies, I knew I'd enjoy it.
In short: it was amazing, the entire story was fascinating, and the aliens were as scary now as they were in the early movies.

Did anyone else enjoy it?

EDIT: Nevermind, I did not notice the thread in the SF/Fantasy section. This may be locked if necessary.

Haven't seen it yet, but for me it is the summer movie. Avengers was great. Looking forward to Dark Knight Rises. Prometheus is the movie I've been waiting all year to see.

Surely we'll agree that it's vastly better than the fifth and sixth films in the series, and at least somewhat better than the third and fourth.
Pregnant women past or present are not likely to appreciate it as much.....:vulcan:

What fifth and sixth films in the Alien Series? The AvP films do not form part of the Alien series. The franchise perhaps but not the series.

Honestly, I thought AVP2 was better. Prom had a disjointed script with plot holes big enough to park the Enterprise in. AVP2 was a basic monster movie, but at least it flowed better and you could follow the story.

When you could see it.

AVP2 is one of the biggest pieces of shit ever committed to film.

I didn't like Prometheus that much, at least, it wasn't as good as I had hoped Scott's return to sci-fi would be, but unfavourably comparing it to AVP2 is bonkers. AVP2 had no plot holes, because it had no plot to speak of. Prometheus was a film that tried to reach for the stars, and failed. But at least it tried.

My point is that I can sum up the basic story of AVP2 in a single sentence: When aliens get loose in a town, a Predator is sent in to clean up the mess.

Just about everything in the movie serves to advance this. It doesn't do it all that well, but it still does it. On the other hand, can you do that for Prometheus? Not really. Any such sentence that will let you sum up everything that happens will have to be fairly clunky.

Oh I can easily sum up Prometheus in one sentence:
The humans go to the stars to meet their creators who turn out to be assholes.

You just didn't like the movie 'cause it didn't fulfill Your expectations. It did mine.

Prometheus had me rolling my eyes plenty of times but by films end I didn't feel pissed or sorry I saw it so I guess I liked it despite it's flaws.

Except a lot of the humans didn't. And there were quite a few things in the movie that didn't serve it. Like the alien snake bit. What was that about? Did it advance the plot? No. Did it establish character? No. It was there just for a cheap scare. Prometheus was telling quite a few different stories, and they weren't tied together well.

AVP2 followed the "How-To" guide on making a film with cliches, but they put every single cliche in there in the film.

It's one of the only sci-fi movies I have turned off before the end. Not only was it one of the most boring, unimaginative films one could conceive of, it was also completely shrouded in darkness to disguise the fact that they just paid two tramps to dress up in rubber suits and have a fight in a car park.

Utterly worthless.

I tried to watch AvP2 in total darkness. Still could not see a damn thing. But that was not the movie's main problem...
