Prometheus 2: Apparently it's happening

So Covenant was just a retreat of Alien, and didn't do much as a PREquel, nor give us much for a SEquel?

I guess I will wait for Redbox on this...lots of other movies to see...

It reveals one thing about the origins of the Aliens as they appear in later/earlier (you know what I mean) films, which actually manages to make them less interesting.

I'm surprised to see this reaction on here, it seemed like the reviews I was seeing on other sites were saying it was better than Prometheus.

Depends on what you want from it. I'd imagine that if you're absolutely busting to see the Xeno again, it'd be hard not to rate Covenant over Prometheus.

It's not - I saw it yesterday.

I wouldn't let Scott anywhere near the franchise again - incoherent stupidity shouldn't be guaranteed in the premise for a movie or how the characters behave. I'm really hoping he didn't have too much to do with the Blade Runner sequel.

I'm relieved that the makers referred to David reverse engineering the creatures so at least that doesn't contradict too much that came before. You are left, however, with the impression that that isn't something Scott is much concerned by. I'm appalled that he's canned the proposed Alien 5 to make more of these prequels.

Overall it's probably on a level with Prometheus. Although I wasn't impressed, it wasn't completely awful - it mainly looked OK and the action sequences were fairly well done. It just needed a better story and a tighter narrative - the prerequisites for starting a movie I'd say.

Watched it yesterday. It is a PROMETHEUS sequel. And it is an ALIEN movie. I wouldn't say it's a bad movie, but I'm not really looking forward to the continuation of its storyline either. That's all I'm saying.

I loved the hard suits. The ship reminded me a bit of the Cygnus from The Black Hole.

Neutrinos pass through objects without causing damage!

I thought Prometheus was a gorgeous-looking film that asked a lot of interesting questions and gave the audience something to think about. The so-called stupid bits of the action plot can either be explained away or ignored. The questions about life and its purpose were what were really interesting. Michael Fassbender was amazing.

Covenant is a tropey rehash of things long gone and left me with a huge case of . It's not terrible, but it is pretty meh compared to its thoughtful predecessor.

In a nutshell - I am not sorry I went to see this but neither am I especially happy I did. I choose to go because it was Certified Fresh on RT but see now that is really isn't. Not saying it deserves a Rotten rating, just not a CF rating.

It does move the story forward, answers some questions I wanted answered and answers them in surprising ways but, now that the cash has changed hands, I wish I had waited for the HV release.

The saddest scene in the movie was seeing the two androids fight. I might have left David on the surface as banishment--but would not have destroyed him, had I been on the crew.

The box office verdict's in: Alien: Covenant ain't doing too good.

Ridley made it dirt cheap compared to most films of its' type, so it's already at least made its' production budget back thanks to overseas box office. But I'm sure Fox'll be telling him now "You get only one more movie. Wrap it all up."

Just came back from it, largest non-Imax screen in Germany, less than 12 people in the theatre. Deservedly so. :(

I wouldn't call $97 million to Prometheus' $130 million "dirt cheap."

Still, I'm disappointed that Covenant made only made $36 million to Prometheus' $51 on the opening weekend. However, on the flip side, Prometheus' total domestic gross was "only" $126 million, so I'm not too worried.

I don't know, not a bad movie, but not really that great either. Michael Fassbender is definitely the film's highlight and he totally owns it with two different characters, indeed it's impressive just how well one actor can carry several key scenes playing against himself. But otherwise, there's not much to this movie. The other characters are barely memorable, the twist ending can be seen a mile away, and for an Alien movie, the Aliens were the least interesting thing in it.

I have nothing special to add to what's already been said. I liked Prometheus better; I was kind of hoping the follow-up would be about Elizabeth Shaw, as this series has always featured women in the lead role. Prometheus was more character-driven and plot-driven.

One scene I particularly liked about this movie was two Michael Fassbenders kissing each other. :luvlove:

Sounds like I'll be saving my money and getting this on Blu-Ray from Netflix.
There's Pirates 5, Wonder Woman, and The Mummy coming up in the next few weeks, so I've got plenty of other stuff to see.
