I just watched Projections for the very first time and didn't like it. I just felt it was a little bit hokey in parts. Also a Barclay episode snd I'm never a fan of those.
Projections. Is this one of the worst episodes?

I never particularly disliked it, but I guess that's a matter of preference. I believe many people think it's one of the weaker episodes.
Trying to look at it a bit objectively, perhaps that's because the central conceit ('what if none of Voyager is actually real ?') isn't going to work - it's not as if it's very likely they'll uproot the entire series' premise like that. So you know in advance normalcy will be restored.
Although, to be fair, if they'd actually gone that route ('guess what? The EMH really was Zimmermann all along!') that would have been a heck of a stunt. Curious what they've would have done the rest of Voyager's run in that case

Actually I take it back I just finished Twisted and found that worse
I love both "Projections" and "Twisted," why all the hate? 
Janeway gaslighting Harry? What?
Projections: Originally intended for S1, one of the 4 episodes held over for the start of S2. It introduced Barclay to Voyager, introduced the Doc's creator as Lewis Zimmerman, confirmed later on in a S3 episode. It was a "trapped in the holodeck" episode, but with a twist, it's the holographic doctor trapped inside the holodeck, meaning a very high risk they could lose him entirely. I won't spoil it. It's a one off. Dust off your DVD's or go on P+ and give it a watch. I love this episode. I believe Jennifer Lein got a lot to do in this one too.
She tells him that he's been one of the bright spots in the mission, and has exceeded any expectations she had of him.
Which of course explains why keeping him stuck at ensign for seven years is entirely appropriate.
This wasn't gaslighting. I think Harry's lack of promotion had more to do with the show's status quo because reruns mandate from UPN.
I always loved "PROJECTIONS". Definitely the strongest episode of the 4 holdovers from season 1.
Great script by Braga, great directing by Frakes, and great acting by Picardo. (Coincidentally appropriate that Frakes directed it, since this is basically VOY's version of "Frame of Mind", another one written by Braga. Both of these episodes helped me prove my theory was correct about episodes that take place almost entirely in the mind/holodeck/hallucination/fake place... there are no shots of the exterior of the ship/station while the events take place inside said fake place/holodeck/mind/hallucination. Always was a clue for later episodes once I discovered this pattern.)

No, not at all. It's definitely one of the best episodes!
I find it very exciting. When you watch it, you know that something is wrong with The Doctor all of a sudden becomiing a "living, bleeding being" and the others are holograms but you don't know what is wrong.
One of the high spots is the fake end when everything finally seems to be OK but all of a sudden kes starts to behave as if she's really married tot The Doctor and the nightmare starts again.
Not to mention this little conversations at the end of the episode:
KES: Well, I sometimes ask those kind of questions. Who am I? What am I doing here? What's my purpose in life? Doesn't everybody?
THE DOCTOR: Not me. I know exactly who I am and what my purpose is. I am the Emergency Medical Hologram aboard the starship Voyager.
KES: Are you sure about that?
(Kes leaves. The Doctor leaves his desk and strolls to the Sickbay door. It opens. He checks that the corridor is clear then sticks his arm out. It disappears up to the elbow. He pulls it back in, smiles, and goes back to his work.)
When I first watched the episode many years ago, I wasn't sure if the episode really was over until the end credits started to roll on the screen.
Excellent episode! I'll give it 5 points out of five and a place among my Top 10 favorite Voyager Episodes.
It gave me some thought about possible Doctor/Kes pairing. Not my number one pairing (especially for Kes), but, for me, it's definitely better (for me) than Doctor/Seven, as Kes don't see like a kind of woman to feed to the Doctor's ego and that would say to him when he's going too far on something, or focuses on something too much. And they both teach each other somethng (Doctor teach Kes medical things and Kes teach the Doctor about being a sentient being), so they;re both equal.
