I just noticed, there's a set of huge windows or doors on the front left side of the saucer. Observation lounge, Ten Forward type eating area, or Shuttle-bay? I guess they can also be escape pods.
I like it! Its cool the way they use decorative exterior lights to mimic the look of windows on a normally larger ship (assuming that those are not actually just tiny windows, or if the scale of this ship is way wackier than I think). I really like the idea of slimming down a design we normally associate with larger ships, and still makes sense from in-universe practical reasons; hang out and chill in the saucer, work on engine stuff in the primary hull. It makes sense even on a much smaller scale. Not a huge fan of the front of the nacelles, but overall, really digging the design.
I like it. It's like they took the uparmored Voyager that returned home with future tech from an alternate timeline and used that as the basis for new ships post-2378. The Inquiry-class starships in PIC also give me that vibe. Janeway brought back some interesting ideas for new technology that Starfleet began applying as soon as they could reverse-engineer things.
That's what it reminds me of! I couldn't put my finger on it, but that's exactly what I thought when I first saw it.
The ship's hull looks pretty dense, like it might be more armored than most other 24th century Starfleet ships. Rather than having deployable armor, maybe the ship's hull is made out of that armor.
I like how the warp nacelles have almost a throwback TOS Era look with rounded Bussard collectors but then taper to a more TNG Era rear part.
Can't wait to see it in flight. Extremely sleek design that I find very appealing, as well as the cockpit feature that is amazing.
Eaves is in the show, so those could easily just be lights. He also put them on the Walker and Constitution classes in DSC.
I love it and it's a lovely ship. Maybe those are not RCS thrusters but maybe somehow used for landing, as I think that flap under the saucer is a boarding ramp.
