Primeval Series 3 (Spoilers)

Do we know if ITV have raided the piggy bank yet to see if they can make S4?

Last week's Media Guardian suggested (in its rumours column) that ITV couldn't afford to keep making Primeval, but was looking to set up a ground-breaking deal to share it with another UK broadcaster.
Guessing at what that might mean, it might be that it gets a first run on Sky One, and then a repeat on ITV1 (or vice versa), or.... But basically, ITV1 still gets to show it, but a non-ITV channel gets the digital rights (instead of ITV2).

its not going to be Sky, Sky would not do it if it was to air free elsewhere.

And you know that how?
I could see Sky putting money in if Sky One gets first tx, and ITV1 gets the terrestrial tx six months later (after all, Sky runs the Simpsons, and then Channel 4 reruns it). Doesn't mean it's going to happen, but there's nothing that rules it out.
But all that's sure - even from the Media Monkey gossip item, so even that's unsure! - is that ITV is looking to share production costs with another UK broadcaster.

C4 is five years behind Sky when it comes to the Simpson's.

As for Sky/Primeval, based on Skys behaviours with Prison Break, Lost, & House, what on earth makes you think that Sky are willing to share the rights with ITV? (you could also include Nip/Tuck & 24, but both have aired a couple of seasons on Sky 3)

I have no particular reason to suppose that Sky would be the partner, and was just mentioning it as a possible - given that it and the BBC are the only real options for finding extra finance from British broadcasters (Channel 4 and Five being in as bad a state as ITV in terms of funding).
But... the Media Guardian report described the possible deal as 'ground-breaking' (or some very similar term). And if Sky did want Primeval, making a deal with ITV might be the only way it could get it, and that would count as ground-breaking... not least for the reasons you point out above.

What about the people that owns Dave.
ITV could have the 1st run and instead of Showing the catch up ep on ITV2 they put it on watch/Dave.

That's an outside chance: Dave is (I think - you can lose track) part of Flextech, which is a joint venture between the BBC and Virgin (and a few others - it's all finance page waffle!). But if Virgin were to come in, it'd be on Virgin 1, not Dave, I'd suspect.

the media guardian article you mention, also pointed out that it is unlikely to be sky, due to Sky One being too similar to ITV 2.

Is that in today's edition (8th June)? I was quoting the Media Monkey piece from last week: "Stephen Carter take note: ITV is considering a plan that would see it share its hit dinosaur drama Primeval with a rival broadcaster to help spread the considerable costs of the special effects heavy series. Is this the first example of TriceraTop-slicing?"
Anyway, if they're now rulign Sky out, that's interesting. Sort of narrows it down to the BBC and possiblyVirgin then...

this is the one im talking about

ITV is considering a radical plan that could see it share hit dinosaur drama Primeval with a rival broadcaster to spread the cost of the effects-heavy series.
MediaGuardian.co.uk understands that the independent production company behind Primeval, Impossible Pictures, has presented ITV with a proposal that could see the fourth series of the Saturday evening drama premiere on a digital channel before airing on ITV1 later.
It is understood that the Sci Fi channel is being eyed as a potential home for the show, although Sky1 has been ruled out as it is too much of a direct rival to ITV's digital service ITV2.

I was just coming to post that.

It's dead, unless the Americans can find a way to totally not screw the dino on this one.

The track record with American attempts at British science fiction is not one to make me hold out hope, but I don't for a minute believe that this is the ultimate end of Primeval.

Tim Haines said they were in talks with a Canadian production company on the North American spin off...

I was thinking of the movie, m'self, but if a spinoff does happen, yes, please, let Canada do it.

This article from TotalSciFiOnline.com was in my inbox when I woke up this morning. And it was sent to me by a source I would consider highly reliable on the subject of Primeval.

That seems to be the source everyone else is using, too. Except BBC say ITV confirmed it.

I read the news on c21media.net which is not the place gossip, so I tend to believe it, and I am shocked & devastated.

still this is exactly the dumb kind of thing ITV would do.
