President Lincoln meets new Uhura

Grup

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
If Zoe Saldana's Uhura met Lincon and he said "A charming Negress."

Would she reply as Nichelle Nichols did or would she reply
"OH NO You di'nt!"

No offense intended. Just a reflection on the youth of todays' temperament and catch phrases.

I'll understand if the mods delete though. Again. No offense intended.

I really don't want to ever hear that phrase again or see it in print.
Sorry i clicked here.

I would imagine Saldana Uhura would probably kick Space Lincoln's ass.

And indeed, this is a topic I have actually wondered about.

Are you one of these people who think all black people talk like this?

Seriously though, i understand the reasoning. Just dont have anything to say on the matter, due to the fact i cant think of anything. I have also wondered about this. To be honest.

Absolutely not. Just like all Star Trek fans don't wear pointy ears, have never kissed a girl and still live at home. But some do.

Sorry, meant as a joke. Its difficult to convey humour in text, i often forget that reading is not the same as listening to tones etc of the voice. :)

If you look closely when he said it a short look of fury passed over Nichelles(sp) face then she delivered her line. Zoe probbaly wwould have protested the line in the script phase and the line would not have been used. I will take you at your word about the offense thing.

We're good. I too must apologize. I have the same prob with conveying my true sentiments in text.

But some of us do wear pointy ears.:guffaw:

I suspect if she had any serious issue with the line, it would have been dropped. The script for TUC had Uhura voicing racist opinions about the Klingons, which was cut because Nichols refused to speak anything bigoted, even if it was towards a fictional race.

Just going thorugh the same in the 'Pegg in sequel?' thread, i forget that im typing and assume the reader knows what im talking/joking about without explaining it.

Were all guilty of it. ;)

I doubt that. Usually Nichelle Nichols had to fight for every line of dialogue she got in an episode. If they cut out Lincoln's line then there goes everything but "Hailing frequencies open" for the whole episode. If I were in her shoes I would have put up with that "charming negress" line so I'd have a part in the episode.

It's one thing to read it on paper. Another all together to hear it out loud. You are probably right though.
