Prediction on the upcoming release schedule

PURELY SPECULATIVE: While on the whole, we don't have cemented in release dates for the live action shows and only really have production dates and vague release dates to go by, I'm suspecting this is the order of release for the upcoming Trek shows.

Star Trek: Lower Decks - Season 2
Assuming season 2 also contains ten episodes, that will take us straight into the fall.

Star Trek: Prodigy - Season 1
While no actual calendar date has been given, only a vague FALL 2021 date. This could follow on right after Lower Decks.

Star Trek: Picard - Season 2
We've already seen two trailers for this series and I assume production is still ongoing.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 1
Production dates on this show were from February to July. We know they've completed filming based off Anson Mount's recent tweets. He also said there are some additional pickups to do in October. No release date other than a vague 2022. BUT - we've still seen no footage from this show yet either.

Production seems to be wrapping up for some of the actors. Various news sites say this series began filming back in November, but there were some production pauses. Discovery, as far we know, is also the Trek series currently that has the most episodes per season 13-15. We have already seen, I believe two (?) trailers for this show, so, perhaps this is coming sooner than I think.

Again, all purely speculative. I'm sure Star Trek Day will clear a lot of this up.

If they are trying for a continuous rollout with no overlap, the schedule should be this:
* August 12 to October 14 - Lower Decks Season 2
* October 21 to December 23 - Prodigy Season 1
* December 30 to March 24 - Discovery Season 4 (said to premiere in 2021, cutting it close)
* March 31 to June 2 - Picard Season 2
* June 9 to August 11 - Strange New Worlds Season 1

Supposedly, Section 31 (and Academy) are going forward, even though it's been claimed they won't until another series has ended. Of the five in production series, we know Picard will have a Season 3, Prodigy will have a Season 2, Lower Decks a Season 3, and there's some indications of Discovery Season 5. Is Strange New Worlds going to be a one-and-done season? I hope not, but it's the only one without any credible rumors of continuing after.

Or maybe one of the other four will end after a final season. Picard ending after Season 3 seems likely. Or even Discovery after Season 5 (ties in with the old "five-year-mission" mantra).

Interesting. I actually forgot that Discovery was said to be airing this year. I wouldn't be terribly upset if Discovery called it quits after season five, but, within the narrative of the show, it seems odd if they did considering the leap into the future. If anything, I think that broadens the canvas a lot more and allows Discovery to run much longer. Had Discovery remained in the 23rd Century, eventually the show would've run up against TOS and since they seem to want to do big stakes stories with the galaxy hanging in the balance and longterm ramifications, how do you do that while TOS is going concurrently?

Picard feels finite to me. I could see it ending after only three seasons. Weird that we say three seasons, because I have a vague recollection of that number being tossed around when the show was first announced -- that it was designed to run for about three seasons. Am I misremembering?

Strange New Worlds and Picard began shooting literally within days of each other. The only difference is we've seen more of Picard and have seen nothing from Strange New Worlds. Strange New Worlds has completed shooting with some pick ups needed in October. I don't know if Picard is done.

I'm sure the completion of filming shouldn't be the only factor to consider when releasing a series, of course. And since those two appear to have been filming in parallel, Paramount+ can push it out whenever the fuck they want.

Well remember that Picard season 3 is being shot immediately after season 2 with no real production break; and further that Patrick Stewart said at the start of his show, he signed on for only three seasons of Picard. The inference of course being that Picard production will be completely finished after season 3 which again is in production right now.

So what I would assume is that if Michelle Yeoh's schedule allows, they would ramp up Section 31 for production ASAP.

Like yours this is all just speculation.

I've watched every episode of every modern CW DC show so far, and I'm still watching.

If that's not going to fatigue me, I don't think all this Trek well.

I'm thinking we probably should ignore the "2021" thing on the Disco trailer, since IIRC in a recent interview Michelle Paradise didn't seem 100% convinced it would meet that. Assuming Prodigy does start immediately after Lower Decks ends, and that does take it to just before Christmas, then I'm thinking they'll hold on premiering on Disco until January. January seems to be typically reserved for premieres. Disco was originally going to premiere January 2017 before it was postponed. The second half of Disco's first season premiered January 2018. Disco season 2 premiered January 2019. Picard premiered January 2020. Though they weren't able to have a premiere in January 2021, I suspect if the pandemic hadn't happened we'd probably have gotten Picard season 2 then, since it had originally been scheduled to begin filming in April 2020, just as season 1 began filming April 2019.

So with all that in mind, I believe Disco season 4 will premiere in January 2022, with all the other shows adjusted accordingly.

I'm disappointed that Strange New Worlds could potentially be held until next summer as it's the one I'm looking forward to most, but, I hope it'll be worth the wait. With all of this in mind, that's the continuous, uninterrupted year of Trek airing that CBS said they were aiming for.

The fact that they haven't said "XX weeks of Trek" like last year (23 weeks of Star Trek promotion), makes me think that they must expect an even longer period, but don't want to hedge their bets, in case Discovery or Picard or SNW hits a snag in post-production/production and has an unforeseeable delay.

Both Star Trek Discovery and Strange New Worlds have a lot of post-production. Given the situation created by the covid-19 pandemic, I don't think they want to rush things or announce hard dates that down the line for some reason they may not make. I'm sure production was starting to move back into "the office" per se; But now with the resurgence they may be holding off on those plans and going back to the "working from home" situation for post-production.

Bottom Line: they don't want to give out hard start dates until they're sure they have a completed product to stream - and right now the only two series they have ready to air are l

First two I'm 100% about...then it gets tricky.

SNW......has wrapped except for small pick up shots.

Picard.....is still in production BUT I have heard the rumors that they are shooting 2 and 3 together......so that clouds up the ETA.

Dates can change and while I know Discovery is said to be coming at the end of 2021, filming is still ongoing. Discovery also has more episodes per season than the traditional ten per season that Lower Decks, Picard, and Strange New Worlds is going to be having. I don't know what Prodigy is going to have, but, I'm just going to assume it, too, will have ten.

Strange New Worlds has completed filming, as you said, save for some pickups in October. While I have no idea of the post-production work status, based on everything we know, of the live action shows, that one seems to have made the most progress. And given that, it makes no sense to hold that until next summer. But again, I'm sure Star Trek Day will clear all of this up.

It does bother me that we've seen literally NOTHING from Strange New Worlds.

They don't seem to air a season of any of these shows while that season is still filming or even close to when it concludes filming. If Strange New Worlds were to, say, air in January, it would've been six months after filming concluded and three months since those pickups.

But again, I don't know.
