Predators... (sigh)

I think this was posted before, I normally troll these boards when bored so I might have seen and missed it accidently.

Anyway, for those who don't know already, apparently it's been announced that there will be a third installment in the Predator series (along with the apparent fifth installment of Alien), this film will be called "Predators" - original.

Anyway, if anything good is to come out of this film, Robert Rodriguez is directing and producing the film. For me that's amazing, as From Dusk Til Dawn, Sin City and Planet Terror are amoung my top 50 film list (both Sin City and Planet Terror being in the top 20 I believe).

Anyway, what do you guys think? Rodriguez might be able to salvage some of the dignity of the franchise, and hopefully give the Predator his balls back after they were violently taken away from him during the events of Alien vs Predator. (My cat just went through a similar process and he's been depressed for the last 3 days, I understand fully how the Predator must feel).

In all seriousness though, I don't think another film is needed. If Roddy can make it in to a good film again. Personally the film has to be more like the first Predator film, where the Predator took more of a backseat role in the movie, which not only made him more scary, but also made the whole movie much more tense than the current hack and slash movies we seem to be getting. I think that's why I loved the first Alien film, it had the same premise.

Anywhoo - discuss!

I like the idea. As one of the few who enjoyed some of the things brought by Alien Vs Predator, I think that breaking them up into two separate movies again is a great idea. Let's see what they can do on their own again (since there were rumors that they were considering AVP3 set during the Colonial Marines era).

Sounds interesting. So is this going to be an origin film or a sequel to the first two? I liked Predator and Alien a lot more when they were separate entities. I think they took that one cutaway shot in Predator 2 a little too far, my opinion anyway.

I don't think there's anything particularly wrong about tying the two franchises together. That cutaway shot in Predator 2 was a fun nod, and the two Alien vs. Predator video games were quite good. It just so happens that the two cinematic attempts to tell that story weren't very good, for numerous reasons.

Still, it's definitely true that the two franchises were better as separate entities. Hopefully this and the Alien prequel that's also in development will do something original, or at least entertaining, with these two properties, rather than continuing to drag them through the ground. We'll see.

If it involves a titty bar in Mexico and Cheech Marin plays more than one character...forget it.

I can see it now, "Pred-tit-ors...YOU CAME FOR THE C-NT, THEY CAME FOR THE HUNT!"

AVP is alot older than the videogames/movies, there have been AVP comics since the late 80's, check out AVP: Race War, classic

How it makes money is what I'd like to know. I've had the misfortune to see both AVP films courtesy of a friend and man were they awful. It's sad because the first Predator film and the first couple Alien films were great...put them together and you should have gotten something good. :borg:

Well, at least with Robert Rodriguez on board hopefully it'll contain less suck than certain other Predator related films

That would actually make me want to see it.

I'm not looking for cinemactic art, just something to entertain.

Cheech Marin can go do no wrong.

I watched AvP 2 last night and while it didn't suck the balls I expected and the action was good, it still was half baked plot with half baked characters and failed to be near the level of the original Predator or Alien movies (or ALIENS).

A reboot is needed if they want to carry no the franchise but the questioni s do they need to ? do we need more.

I still dont get how they could screw up the AvP franchise like they did. The masses want three things. Aliens. Predators. And SPACE MARINES. Blah.

I don't know why they get such a bad press. AvP2 is basically Aliens on Earth, with the initial infestation we didn't get to see in Aliens.

I've never really followed Predator that closely, so bringing the two together worked in my case.

Exactly! Stop this bullshit where it takes place in modern times, no one wants that!

Well, with Rodriguez at the helm, it may at least bring back some of the fun that the last two movies managed to set on fire and hurl into a pit of cinematic despair.

Yeah, with RR doing this, it'll be better than it would have been otherwise. I'm looking forward to it. :techman:
