Having watched the original again the main think lacking in this one is it's near absence of quoatable lines. Then again I guess Predator was made in the 80s when every film had to be quoatable by law...
I like the original Predator. Not to the same degree as, say, the Alien films, but certainly better than the AVP crossover disasters. Predator 2 was OK, it had some good scenes, but I'm not all that bothered about it either way.
Predators seems interesting from what I've seen. The human characters are not a 'team' like Arnie's from the original, which should provide some antagonism, plus the alien setting might give it some variety.
Also, the director is called Nimrod! That's a positive sign if ever I saw one!
I'd put the first Predator right up with the first two Alien movies myself. Sure it's just a schlocky action movie at heart, but it's still beautifully executed, the premise is awesome, and it's moody and atmospheric as hell. Everytime I watch it, I feel like I'm right in that hot and humid jungle with them.
For some reason Predator 2 seems to be getting a lot of love lately, but despite being better than the AvPs, I still find it pretty dull and uninspired. And the "futuristic LA" is just completely laughable. The movie only gets good towards the end when Glover finally goes up against the Predator.
Saw it tonight. Love it, as has been said (and probably will be again) best Predator film since Predator! Hard to give it an excellent, but better than better than average which I'll go with as it seems fairer.
I saifd before hand that what I really wanted it to be was better than AVP or AVPR (especially AVPR, AVP has some redeeming qualities at least) and that if it was as good as PRedator 2 I'd be happy. Well it's better than P2.
There are some lovely homages to Predator, especially when the end credits start. In fact the only thing lacking I'd say is that it's nowhere near as quoatable as Predator.
On the Predator/ Alien comparison I'd actually say Predator is a better film than Aliens. It doesn't feel anywhere near as dated.

No joke. It's easily the best part of the movie. The rest is pretty forgettable.I like the original Predator. Yeah I think that movie gets an extra point just for the last five minutes in the alien ship. Alien Queen skull ftw.![]()

My favorite part of the entire film was:
When the Yakuza guy went sword to blade with the Predator. It just shows how honorable the Predator species is, I mean the Pred could have just shot the Yakuza with no risk to himself, or even killed him when he was on the ground, but to let him get up and fight a proper sword fight was awesome.

I hope this isn't too much spoilage but there are two types of Predators in this film, the "Classic" Predators of the previous films and the "Black" Predators which are bigger, stronger, and meaner.
I think the Predators in the film fall between the lithe KPH and the bulkier variety from the AVP films. None of them are as good as KPH was.
