Pre series launch studio promo video to networks

OMG, that was too surreal.

Well remember it was meant to sell itself as successful to the stations that bought the show and maybe get a few more into the fold. Back when it was filmed STNG was not a guaranteed success. No one had seen more than glimpses of those sets.

It is funny how much Mel touts ILM when they never worked beyond the pilot.

RAMA

Having them work on the series at all was a great move, something that ST V failed to do, and helped the show look as classy as it did when it premiered.

True but he never mentioned Image G who did the other model work and early compositing.

What I want to know is who won the Cheerio sweepstakes walk-on role? You never hear stories from people who actually win these things...

Edit to say: Very good find! I love these historical documents.

Interesting how the studio suit uses the box office success of the movies as a reason to believe the climate is right for a TV series.

The popular notion around here that somehow having successful movies means you shouldn't do a TV series at the same time is just flat-out silly. Success breeds success.

I heard an answer during a panel at a con decades ago.
It was said a little old lady won the Cheerios walk-on role, but never went through with it (for whatever reasons).

The problem is, many ST fans are very unhappy with Abram's version of Star Trek. I know this is an argument waiting to happen, but I do not intend to argue with you just to point out another person's view. :)

Back on topic, I've never seen this promo before and enjoyed it. Thanks for posting!

Paramount was so different back in the Western-Gulf days. I have heard from a few long time Paramount employees how the studio seemed to lose alot of that magic when Viacom bought it. I often wondered how the studio would be different if Barry Diller aquired it instead of viacom in 1993.

Re: Pre series launch, studio promo video to networks

Someone posted this in the future trek forum and I have NEVER seen it before:

Yeah, great find!

The channel has other vids - the ET piece is pretty funny.

"We are told the show calls for more frequent use of the ships hallways" :wtf:

That was cool. It gave good insights on how a show was sold in a syndication market, something that probably doesn't happen today with all the networks and such. I'm glad they even mentioned the Lunch Box as I got one of those, and now use it to hold fishing power bait. It's still quite useful every summer.
