*Potential Spoilers* What will the Alternate Enterprise-A look like

I think an even bigger part of the fanbase would have bitched if it wasn't NCC-1701-A. Trekkies love tradition.

I would be fine without the A. I saw the predecessor destroyed and the new one built. There's NO question it is a different ship, I don't need a letter to inform me of such.

I figured out where they got the idea for that giant registry number and nameplate on the 1701-A

I picked up on that. I'm hoping that will be removed or altered for the 4th movie, and its just there to make the new registry more obvious for the brief time it is on screen.

I like it.
I have to say, the JJverse 1701-A is a rather handsome rendition, and pretty much addresses all of the complaints I had with the first version.

I recall early plans for Next Gen had the Enterprise NCC-1701/7, which was rejigged to NCC-1701-D when STIV established the "-A"

I'd have liked USS ENTERPRISE II NCC-1800

And here is the concept art modified to look more like the finished version:

Doesn't look 100% accurate to what I saw though.

JESUS! That looks horrible!

I was trying to avoid this thread, since I haven't seen Beyond yet. But now the curiosity has gotten the better of me, and I didn't saw it as such a big spoiler since the destruction of the Enterprise was already given away in the trailer, and the 1701-A follow-up was just logical (although uncreative). But that design? It's ugly as hell!

There were complaints about the JJprise (which I actually really liked), because it's proportion were distorted. But say what you will, Ryan Church is an amazing designer, and you can see there went much consideration into the creation of the original JJprise. IMO it turned out beautifully (I wouldn't have minded them using the same cgi model going forward).

But this? Looks like a wild mash-up of JJprise elements, in some parts trying to have more the proportions of the original, in other parts just going completely off the rails. But no overlaying thought or idea into, just a mash-up. Especially strange since it comes from the same guy who designed the Franklin, which in my book is one of the best looking Star Trek ships...

It just seems to me that the designers of this particular ship have been simply unable to build something that looks good at all angles. The side view of the original JJPrise was relatively good, but the top made it look like a pizza cutter and the fore and aft views looked wonky because the nacelle pylons were oddly curved and too close together. With this new JJPrise, they fixed the nacelle problem, making the fore, aft and top views look better proportioned, but now the side profile looks distorted and dis proportioned in other odd ways. You look at the TOS E and especially the TMP refit - they arguably look good at all angles. Hell, even the Excelsior and Ambassador look better proportioned than the new one ever did. IMO, of course, but it seems to be a pretty common impression of this ship.

I think you've spent more time talking about Beyond than just going and seeing it.

The difference is: I'm talking about Beyond when I'm already in front of my computer at home;)
It makes for a good little break between work. As soon as you can (legally) watch the movie at home I'm going to do that!

Honestly, that doesn't look like what I saw in the film.

That's just someones rough approximation.

Have to admit I didn't see much of a difference between 1701 and 1701-A. Certainly looks far better on a 40' screen than on a small postage stamp regardless.

Has somebody answered how long Kirk + co were twiddling thumbs waiting for them to finish the build? It looked less complete when they first docked than the Enterprise was at Iowa shipyards in '09, which was 3 years before its maiden voyage.

hehe :) You saw what I did there.

Something he might have said if he ever saw the Abomination's:

Fixing the doors doesn't fix ugly.

It may look like it was put together by monkeys. The question is can a chimpanzee and two trainees run her?
