Post ROTJ Animated Series Announced:Lindley's Gonna Be Pissed!!!

[
You're only now beginning to think that?

What's the problem? That's all Star Wars was suppose to be - a cashcow that allowed Lucas to make other more worthy films while other directors and writers churned out endless Star Wars adventures.

What other worthy films? Howard The Duck? What I am beginning to realise is that Lucas is a hack who had to rely heavily on other more talented people to help turn his ideas into good movies. Indy would be nothing without Spielberg. Empire nothing without Kasdan and Kerschner. Just look at the prequels.

Hey, I'm not saying he actually made them , but that was the idea. In the late 1970s and very early 1980s, he openly talks about how the Star Wars films would be churned out like the serials they were suppose to be, mainly by other people and this would enable him to build a film studio where serious film-makers could concentrate on their craft and making worthy films.

Of course, over the years, this has completed changed and you'll never see any mention of any such plans or indeed any sense he was just making most of it up as he went along.

The IGN link says that this is referring to the Seth Green Star Wars comedy series.

I don't know about the IGN link but I just checked the link in the OP and it is to AICN's news about the post ROTJ animated series.

There have been rumors about a post ROTJ series for a while now...I remember reading back on the Force.net that there were articles regarding a series being set in the Yuzong Vong era. Maybe this will be officially announced at Comic con? I've no interest in the comedy series but have been enjoying Clone Wars and if they get Mark Hamil to voice Luke then I'll check this out.

The AICN page quotes from and links to an IGN article...

Will we finally get to find out what happened after the Empire's defeat -- but in the form of a sitcom?

From IGN.com:

During the Q&A section of the panel, a fan said, "I would really love to see new adventures after Jedi with our favorite characters Luke, Han and Leia," to which Sansweet replied, "And you will, in the new animation."

The sitcom comment seems to be the only indication that the IGN story is about the Seth Green comedy series instead of a Clone Wars style animated series.

It is possible this might eliminate the continuity of the post-ROTJ Expanded Universe. After all the Clone Wars toons have been very controversial among fans and Star Wars writers alike for basically presenting a different depiction of the war than in the comics and novels.

As for Mark Hammil doing Luke again, he doesn't seem to do it for the games featuring Luke (and he's no stranger to video games-he's done several comic book ones such as Wolverine's Revenge and Arkham Asylum) VA artist Bob Bergen does that, mainly. He even played Luke on Robot Chicken. I can't see Harrison Ford returning (He's been very vocal that he hates the Han character) and Carrie Fisher either.

THX 1138, American Graffiti and Star Wars prove that Lucas is a talented, if minimalist, filmmaker. Not everyone's taste, sure. But talented visionary. You think people like Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola and John Milius would be his inner circle of friends who often sing his praises if he was some hack?

And I'm probably gonna' get a lot of flack for this...but Raiders, Temple and Crusade bear more Lucas fingerprints than Spielberg. Those films are far closer to Lucas's style and sensibilities than Spielberg's.

Well, this is certainly an interesting development, to say the least. But details are still too vague for me to form an opinion beyond that.

EU fanboys are about to find out why their books are no more "canon" in George Lucas' mind than the Trek books are to TPTB at Paramount. Totally disposable, ignorable and inconsequential when it comes to creating new TV or movie material.

What would be very very funny is if he kills a lynchpin character like Luke Skywalker, completely and utterly pulling the rug out from under the EU in the process

I find the anti-Lucas fanboys whining really funny. The "Clone Wars" is proof that an entertaining and good Star Wars animated show can be made and yet some still cling to their tired "beliefs".

As for EU destroying, if the series is good, that is what matters. I mean, Star Wars was supposed to be a modern myth and myths are never told the same way twice.

It is? I only bothered with the Clone Wars movie and was so unimpressed that I didn't bother with the series, save for a few random episodes here and there which were okay, just not anything special.

The series is better than the movie as a whole, but it's pretty uneven and there are a lot of boring episodes featuring characters no one gives a damn about.

The Clone Wars series is rubbish. It looks terrible as well. Why they got rid of Genndy Tartakovsky I'll never know.

However, is it the worst thing ever? Because a lot of anti-Lucas fanboys are claiming that he can't even get mediocre work produced.

Honestly I find I don't really care. I haven't even tried watching the Clone Wars cartoon yet.
