I dabbled in Facebook once, but never again. I view Facebook as a gross violation of privacy. Facebook's privacy controls, such as they are, are so hopelessly convoluted as to be useless. I decided that it's not worth the risk, not by a long shot. If somebody wants to talk to me, they know where to find me.
Also I must point out that there is a difference between simply deactivating your Facebook account and removing it. Deactivating an account is like turning off a T.V. - the shows are still in existence, you're just not looking at them. So it is with Facebook - if you deactivate your account, it's still there.
Actually permanently deleting a Facebook account is a whole 'nother kettle of fish. Here's how to do it.
As for Twitter? Screw 'em. Nobody needs to know every little thing I do. If I spent all day 'tweeting' about the coffee I just drank or the baseball game I just watched or the blizzard that just hit, people would naturally assume that I was a moron with a narcissism disorder. Which may actually be true, but they don't need to know that.
