Very exciting!

Would be interesting if it somehow was a link between DIS and a future Pike series.

However my bet is that when they say “the fans have been heard” about a Pike series, giving us Enterprise related Short Treks is what they’ve come up with. Keeps everyone happy in a way.

I’m down for it either way :techman:

It may be testing the waters. If the shortie is a flat-out success, they may do another one to see a trend, and eventually commit to a series.

Well this was filmed late may, only a month after the season ended, they usually plan these things out pretty far in advance, so it was probably already on the table.

They probably don't want to give anything away of DSC's new time-frame, other than what we've already seen in "Calypso", so Pike and the Enterprise are perfect to go with in lieu of that.

I think they know what they have. Or, pardon the pun, at least they discovered what they have. It's just a matter of working it around what they already have in motion. If Picard's having a 10-episode season is any indication... then 10 episodes might be their way to go in the future. In which case, there would be room for a Pike Series.

They do have the set. Seems like a waste unless they’ve already repurposed it.

I think it would be interesting to do more with Calypso since it is 1,000 years after the crew left, not necessarily 1,000 years since season two. It could be an ongoing story about the Discovery AI left on her own.

That would create more distance between the Federation and the V'Draysh. The 32nd/33rd Century doesn't feel like it's far enough removed from Braxton and Daniels' times that it would make the Federation feel totally foreign. "Calypso" makes it feel like everything from before a certain point was from the "Long Ago" Time and the Federation was this whole other, mysterious thing to Craft.

Hearing this was the perfect thing to end my weekend with. I've loved everything Enterprise related on Discovery, so more material is always good. Mount, Peck and Romijn are superb performers playing great characters and made me interested in the pre-Kirk voyages of the Enterprise despite me growing up in and practically breathing the 24th century. Like others, I hope they are testing the waters with the short and we're getting a full story later; not necessarily a full series, a movie-length special event would also be great.

And this is a bit too far away into wishful thinking, but I think the Enterprise could even serve as a hook into the S31 series if they play their cards right. Shared universes with the casts guesting on each other's series, I've always liked that. Well, anyway, wishful thinking or not, these news got my mind racing in a good way and I couldn't be happier.
