Poor Jeri Ryan

^ I disagree, at least somewhat. It uses cliches, of course - all TV does - but it often (though not always) rises above cliche. That's one of the things I like about it. That's why it's a little disappointing to me when it goes back to the same old, same old.
..but that's putting Trek on a pedistal, don't you think?
That's were peoples disappointment comes into play by doing so.
Trek has yet to rise above stereotyping Earth cultures, should we really expect it to be above using sex as a marketing tool?

Expect it? No. But it would still be nice, don't you think?

If we lived in a perfect world and the writers and folks watching with our own prejudices could rise above as well.

you said think .,. :)

If we are thinking that any one is greater then, or less then the object of any other's observations it is being neither of a form of correct nor incorrect ., (yep I am falling into this idea again.)

expect a thread bout this if there is a place for it.,

I came here in question of Poor Jeri Ryan were they borg implants or real? I am sure that was answered here in the thread about somewhere between page 2 and ten. ahhhh but there is no time for the finding there of would some one please politely inform me about this question,,?

^ Define "real." Jeri has a lovely figure in real life (at least in the photos I've seen - Teya or somebody who's seen her in person would know more), but on the other hand when she was playing Seven they had her in one of those industrial strength corsets.

she is a most beautiful person indeed and I liked her from the start but then I was beginning to -think- that it was I the fool who was fooled but cosmetic's and costumes there of.

^ I'm not sure what to tell you - I have no idea how much the corset enhanced her already lovely figure. I've seen photos of it (Teya posted them one time), and it looked damn uncomfortable, I can tell you that. From what I could remember, it wouldn't take a poor figure and make it great, but it probably enhanced her somewhat.

For morons.

Goodness, if beauty is judged by the silhouette we cast, then god help us all.

Should the rest of the cast have been wearing corsets?

How irresponsible that they weren't.

Shatner wore a Corset in his third season I understand?

So it's not completely a girl thing?

I've begun wondering how good Cinderella's ugly sisters are in bed since my recent ugly girls try harder revelation?

Remember Kate "red head from Greys Anatomy/Private Practice" Walsh on Drew Carey and they stuck her in one larger fat suit after another as we watched her expand over the course of a season till she finally collapsed emotionally while watching a sex video she made with Drew?

Surely inner beauty rocks harder?

How unfortunate that Seven is dead on the inside.

^ For a second there, Guy, I thought you were calling me a moron, but I've decided you weren't. Don't spoil my illusion, if illusion it is.

I believe Shatner did wear a corset-thingy at times - presumably just to make him look slimmer, not to enhance his bustline. Although I guess you never know...

Oh, of course not Kate, but imagine all those people out there who do not know that either Jeri Ryan or Seven are attractive women from just looking at her bogstandard in ratty jeans, flip flops, unkempt hair and no make up? Imagine the limited cognitive functions some people must have to swear that without press on nails and eye liner that she's a bit of a sow they wouldn't touch with a ten foot barge pole?

Honestly, I find it hard to believe that such people exist, yet BILLIONS of dollars(trillions?) in thousands or markets and industries advertise and target straight towards this sort of hypothetical numbskull who needs extra special help in finding beauty which should be explosively self evident.

So it's the powers that be underestimating us and... You ever seen Wrestling?

^ Not if I can possibly avoid it.

I agree that TPTB do underestimate us - I'd like to think so - and yet I have to say that I've met quite a few males and females who seem to make these amazingly superficial judgments about sexual attractiveness. The flashy guy/gal is often judged the most attractive. I'd like to think most of us start to get over that by our late teens or, at the latest, mid-20s, but sometimes...

On the other hand, some things give me hope. For example, in TOS Kirk was the designated heart-throb and yet zillions of women, including me, fell for Spock. And then there is the Mary Ann vs. Ginger "issue." I love it when TPTB mess up, which they seem to do with a certain amount of regularity.

Edit: Oh, and of course there are the guys who find Troi and Seven more appealing when they're wearing something less overt than the catsuits.

Frankly, I thought Ryan looked better whenever they let her wear normal clothes but that's just me.

Maybe they should have stuck all the women in revealing outfits, I mean Legend of the Seeker has nearly every female showing off their cleavage and don't get me started on the Mord-Sith...

And the men.

Yes, bare chested men everywhere.

Equality in half nudity is equality for all.

I couldn't even get through the pilot to Seeker, but then I cane hear the Kiwi Accents bubbling under the fake American accents and it just hurts me.

i thought Jeri looked amazing Fully Borg. Even sexually of course, but then they stripped her down into a borg halfling and it just seemed cowardly to defang and gut the borgitudity from the gal... Imagine if Kim was still droning on about her if she was still a mess of wrapped steel cable, servos and blinking diodes?

That would be character building that he sorely needed.

I can never understand why so many take issue with the catsuit.
Madonna can finger her choocie on stage and it's called groundbreaking.
Jeri wears a full body leotard that shows off nothing and people are offended.

My sentiments exactly.

I love the fact that, initially Seven joined the crew in order to "sex it up" but ended up being, in my opinion, a very interesting and intelligent individual.

I've met her in person, everything is real.

Wearing the catsuit doesn't qualify as antics. Character wise, it was necessary medically at first and likely became an emotional comfort later. Behind the scenes wise, Jeri Ryan had no say over it, at least not until it caused bodily harm and became a liability issue.

What interests me about Seven is how, as others have said, she was created as a sex charm yet Jeri desexualized her and turned her into a smart, straight-forward, completely uncoy character. The character the writers envisioned and the character they got were at complete parallels, all thanks to one person...the one person most bashed for why and how she was originally created.
