If you get the b.ray disc on the 1st week of release at bestbuy, target etc it's about 22 dollars-that's not bad.

I will be buying the Blu Ray. I will defentaly buy the movie on the very day of the release, I will waste no time on buying it! I'm anxious as it is for it to come out. I seen the movie 8 times, and I still want to see it again. So, I'm trying to wait patently for it to come out on Blu Ray. Just less than two months away and it will be here!

Nah.

It's not a priority for me.

It's not a movie I feel I may have missed anything the first time around.

Have an upconverting DVD player..and my budget is tight..so unless I get a windfall soon..it's the DVD for me..1 disk..

This was a great film and well shot to-it will look fantastic on blu ray, also looking forward to the behind the scenes and deleted scenes with the klingons!

I'm looking forward to the Spock baby scene. I really thought it should have been put in the movie.

(By the way, does anyone here own the new Blu-Ray release of the first 6 Trek movies? I was considering getting it but I've heard that they didn't even clean it up, it's just standard definition with a higher price tag and the words "Blu-ray" slapped on.)

All six films are definitely cleaned up, though some more than others. And they are all in actual high definition 1080p. The only thing is that the versions of the first, second and sixth films are the theatrical cuts, not the special editions.

The STXI Blu-Ray will only cost ten bucks more than the 1-disc regular DVD. FWIW.

Nah. Fine movie and all, but it's not own worthy to me. I'll watch the crap out of it when it hits cable though.

And it's WORTH it.

Think of it this way: Those who have Blu-Ray players will also have HDTVs. You think we want to feed those HDTVs with anything other than the very best quality sources? I'm not putting some crappy standard def DVD in there if I can avoid it.

I see your point there. I think you just may have convinced me to get the blu-ray version. I just realized that I have an HDTV, so I might as well put it to use...

It's NOT just standard definition with the words "Blu-ray" slapped on. They did not do a full remastering or restoration of the films (though TWOK did get a more thorough treatment), but as film stock has way more resolution than any Blu-ray player or home hi-def display, even a less than stellar transfer will show the better quality of the Blu-ray image on a sufficiently large (or from a sufficiently close) display. The Trek Blu-rays are not "reference quality" discs (very few releases are) but if you have a hi-def display, it will look better in Blu-ray. How much better depends on your display and its size and how far you sit from it, but it will be better.

...But I won't respect myself in the morning. Stoopid, weak self. Sellin' out for the "Shiny-New". Seriously, I think I'm going to beat myself up for this one.
"Oh!" he says, "NOT. ONE. PENNY." he says. Then BAM! Comic book and two times at the movies and now a 2 disc dvd. G-Zeus, might as well just send my checkbook to J.J. and get it over with. gah.
i am big epic fail. sigh.:(

I plan on getting the 2-disk DVD.

I'm not interested in getting Blu-Ray at this time. I don't own an HDTV, and I watch all my movies and do all my gaming on my PC.

Am I correct in assuming that there will be only one Blu-Ray release? Not several, with varying numbers of discs, like with the standard version?

I voted for the two discer but I'll have to see the content prior to purchase. When is this coming out?

At this moment all the Blu-Ray releases have the same number of discs however several sellers have already announced bonuses attached if you buy the Blu-Ray from them.

Best Buy Blu-Ray bonus includes four badges
