I'm just finishing the last season of Atlantis for the first time after having watched SG-1 straight through for the first time as well. As with SG-1, I'm finding I enjoy Atlantis more each year after a subpar first season. Anyway, I know that Atlantis has been pulled in favor of the new SG-U show which looks like a nuBSG clone. While I loved nuBSG and thought it was a great series, I'm not so sure about this SG-U.

So, my question for you stargate fans is which would you have preferred?

I would have liked having both shows for the new season. Would have hoped for SGA to continue on the level they achieved with The Shrine and Vegas though, but that would prolly have been wishful thinking anyways.

I just watched Season 5 myself, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. It felt like a great improvement over an unfocused Season 4. I would have loved to see another season of Atlantis, if only to avoid the very rushed finale.

I haven't finished Season 5, but it's been my experience that every year of SG Atlantis has been better than the past so it's not a suprise to me that Season 5 ends up being better than Season 4. I felt Carter was waaaaay under/misused in Season 4 and if they had to get rid of Wier (which at any time during the first season I would have been all for but by Season 3 had sort of grown attached to her) Picardo's character was a nice replacement for her.

It's really too bad we couldn't have gotten a nice 2 year arc to close out the show and really give Atlantis the opportunity to close out on it's own terms rather than try and cram things into a two-hour movie.

I voted for Atlantis by itself.

I feel that after the blip that was Amanda Tapping's uneeded time on the show, the show was finally hitting its stride again.

Sheppard, McKay, and Ronon can always entertain just by the banter between them. Woolsey was growing more and more by the second, coming into his own as a character. Keller was also growing, though she did tend to grate on the nerves once in a while. If they had worked to continue Michael as a threat instead of turning him in a cartoon in his later appearences, they would've had a great villain to build stories around.

The only thing I do miss is Rachel Luttrell as Teyla: the worst actress and character ever to be a Stargate main character.

Eh, I think Season 1 is the best, but I didn't realize that until I watched it for a second time. The characters hadn't really grown on me yet, so I didn't get to appreciate the complexity of the story arc in that season.

Season 4 was definitely the low point in the show for me, though, so I'm glad they managed to improve with Season 5.

I felt so too, and I found that to be strange cause it always felt like she was walking around with a huge burden on her shoulders. They could have greatly expanded on her character I think.

So, did you mean you "do" miss her because she was that bad and you enjoyed that level of suckitude, or did you mean you "don't" miss her?

I voted Cancel Atlantis and give the franchise some down time, bring SG-U on later.

Atlantis reaaaaaally needed to go. It was in terrible shape that last season. I think it would've been nice to give the franchise some rest, so that audiences wouldn't be so tired of the same old thing. Plus it would give the writers time to actually prepare and plot out a direction for the show and the characters.

As it is, I have a feeling we will get another meandering, watered-down version of another show, a Stargate: BSG, if you will.

I voted "other." I'm interested in a new spin-off. I just wish they were bringing over an established character as a regular. Back when Atlantis started, I was very skeptical about it being any good. The only thing that kept me watching early on was the presence of Dr. McKay. I'd fallen in love with him the moment he had the audacity to call Samantha Carter a "dumb blonde" in "48 Hours." I'd be much more interested in Universe if they were bringing over one of my Atlantis favorites like Dr. McKay, Dr. Beckett, Dr. Zelenka, or Jeanie Miller.

Barring that, my 2nd choice would be to just continue Atlantis.

I think a lot of that was because Tapping was splitting her time between Atlantis and the 2 direct to video SG-1 movies.

I thought Seasons 1, 2, & 4 were really good. The latter half of Season 3 was where they started to lose me, largely because they started playing McKay way too broad. (I haven't seen Season 5 yet.)

Atlantis didn't deserve five seasons, though I haven't seen the last one. It never lived up to the potential of its first year.

I would have cancelled it and let the franchise have some down time. Maybe a lot of down time. It's become so entrenched in its complicated mythology and yet so simply formulaic that I wouldn't mind a reboot at this point.

While I didn't have any real problems with the last two years of Altantis, I have no problems with things just they way they are, maybe SGU can have the full attention of the writing staff instead mixing it between two series.

I would've kept Atantis on a few more seasons and then have Universe start up a year or so later.

Atlatis turned into shit so quickly it's stunning.

Cancel Atlantis and wait at least a few years before starting a new show. Also fire all the writers, every single one of them.

I love the way you make blanket statements as if everyone shares your opinion.

I voted to cancel Atlantis and give the overall series some downtime before starting up Stargate U.

But do they listen to me, oh no..... ;)
