Poll: What Is Your Favorite Trek FIlm of All

What You All Time Favorite Trek Movie or Movies

  • Total voters
    94
Final Frontier
Undiscovered Country
First Contact
Star Trek

Those are my absolute favorites. Would have been more interesting without multiple choice though the LOL of Insurrection having zero votes is greater this way.

My absolute favorite is TWOK, which also happens to be probably my favorite overall movie ever. If I was to rank all of them

1. TWOK
2. First Contact
3. TUC
4. The Search for Spock
5. The Voyage Home
6. Generations
7. Into Darkness
8. Nemesis
9. TFF
10. TMP
11. Insurrection
12. ST 09

Star Trek (2009) and First Contact, although Search for Spock is up there too as this was the first Trek movie I ever saw on the big screen.

TWOK... after waiting for years for a Star Trek movie and then being nearly bored to death by the first one, this was the one that brought the real Trek back to us. It was like having 1968 time warped to 1982!

I've always segregated the films into four buckets.

Outstanding/The Evens: Khan, Voyage, Undiscovered, and First Contact
Enjoyable: Search for Spock, Final Frontier, Insurrection, ST09, and Into Darkness
Disappointing: TMP and Generations
Awful: Nemesis

May I ask about the general loathing/dislike for Insurrection? Is it the cheesy humor that turns most people off? I've always thought it would have been a better two-part episode rather than a movie, mainly because the very nature of the Briar Patch left the film without any really grand consequences (completely insular story).

But it was a great morality tale, in the original vein of Star Trek. Also, I happen to think this was Picard's best movie: both action hero and morality czar. And I loved the Ba'ku as a species. Wish they could've explored even more their choice to turn away from technology.

Actually, I don't mind the humor. It is the morality tale that is awful. As soon as he found out he was smack dab in the middle of a civil war, Picard should've recused the Federation from the whole mess.

But, the whole point was that the Prime Directive had already been violated because of Starfleet's covert operations with the Son'a, at the expense of the Ba'ku. Picard's entire moral stand was based on the very fact that the Prime Directive had been violated.

(My biggest complaint is the apostrophes in the names of the species. Christ, I can never remember where they go! Drives an english major nuts!)

I'm a TNG fan all the way, but my favourite STAR TREK movie is, and always has been, The Search for Spock. I really don't believe that Nimoy was overly concerned about the look of it, as much as he just wanted to focus on characters and there are a lot of close-ups, in this movie. Nevertheless, the cinematography is brilliant! And more than any other STAR TREK movie, TSFS captures what made TOS so durable for so many decades. There's references to TOS in this movie, without this movie winking at the audience ever. And, unfortunately, from The Voyage Home, onwards, the winking has never stopped in this franchise. There are other STAR TREK movies that I regard very highly and think of as almost works of Art, in themselves. But ... The Search for Spock always hits the spot, for me.

Agreed! TSFS is excellent and I enjoy it much more than the popular TWOK. I find TWOK slow.

TSFS theme of loyalty and friendship is the culmination of the 79 TOS episodes.

Lloyd makes a great Klingon--a driven, stop-at-nothing visionary (in the Klingon sense). more ruthless even than Khan. TSFS wears the best with time IMO of all the Trek movies.

If it had been in the vein of TOS, that might have been good! But instead it was TNG in the worst way, bland (the beige space hippies) and pompous (taking a speechy stance on a phoney moral dilemma), with an unbelievable romance forced in. The moral dimension was fake, because the Baku were not a pre-warp civilisation, and because there were other obvious ways to solve the problem of accessing the healing radiation stuff (except plot said no). Also, the attempts at humour were weak.

My favorite is The Wrath of Khan, such great rivalry between Kirk and Khan and closeness between Kirk and Spock, only somewhat rivaled by First Contact (also a strong story and characterizations).

It's probably a combination of the small-scaleness, the excessive humor in what could have been a drama and that a lot of people disagree with it's focus on rights rather than utility (and/or just dislike the Ba'ku and so the heroes for helping them).

There's a lot to like and a lot to lament in the ST movies, and often within the same movie.

I put TWOK at the top. :bolian:

II, VI, and First Contact all the way!

Also, I'm pleased that Into Darkness is currently in last. Blech!

No, it's just down the bottom of the list. It's actually third-last.

Oops...you're right! I is bad at reading.

Yeah...the ST movies are incredible in their inconsistency.

My current listing (some places change, especially the top two spots which switch back and forth between one another):

BEST STAR TREK EVAR!

1. Star Trek 2009
2. Star Trek Into Darkness

So much fun to watch! Pop in that DVD!

3. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
4. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
5. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
6. Star Trek: First Contact
7. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

Still good to watch, but a number of things rub me the wrong way.

8. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
9. Star Trek: The Motion Picture
10. Star Trek: Generations

Sure I'll watch them, if nothing else is on.

11. Star Trek: Insurrection
12. Star Trek: Nemesis
