May I ask about the general loathing/dislike for Insurrection? Is it the cheesy humor that turns most people off?
It's probably a combination of the small-scaleness, the excessive humor in what could have been a drama and that a lot of people disagree with it's focus on rights rather than utility (and/or just dislike the Ba'ku and so the heroes for helping them).
I will never forget the collective groan in the theater (me included) when Riker's joystick popped up. LOL
The only defense of the humor I have is to refer everyone to just about every other Star Trek movie. There are particularly groan-worthy attempts at humor in each of them. So I'm not sure Insurrection really stands out on that merit.
