Which Name should the Doctor have chosen?

I watched Heroes and Demons a week ago and started thinking about the Doctor's name. I know, he rejected Schweitzer and I remember the producers almost had him choose Zimmerman (the Playmates action figures even had that as his name on the packaging at one point!), but ultimately he went with The Doctor. Was that cool, or should he have chosen a name?

I feel like anything other than 'The Doctor' would have ended up sounding a bit lame. For him to take on the name 'Zimmerman' would have been too predictable and eye-rolling worthy.

He should have changed himself to a tactical hologram and called himself Joe Kickass.

Definitely should have taken a name, as soon as it was determined he would be a member of the crew. If so they probably would have gone with something iconic like Galen or Hippocrates, Schweitzer, Da Vinci or Van Gough, but that would have been a mistake. Then Tom could have misspoke his name and it would have stuck with the crew.

Like, the Doctor would have said, "My name is Vincent Van Gough," and Tom would have conveyed it as "Vincent Price", and then everyone would start calling him Doctor Vincent, much to the Doctor's protestation. Kes would have said, what difference does it make, it's endearing, and he would have caved, but not after accidentally infecting Tom with the Phage.

I voted Zimmerman, since he is, in a sense, the "son" of the programmer. Woud've been a nice touch. However, I think in the final ep, didn't they establish he took on a name of the week or something like that? Can't remember. -- RR

Schweitzer! Schweitzer! Schweitzer!

What name did he settle on I forget? It was something lame like Joe, after his wife's uncle or something.

BTW I know a Dr. Doctor lol.

I'm with you RR for the same reason!

I wanted him to settle on a name. I think they decided to leave him nameless as a way to set him apart from the other characters, since he was essentially an artificial man like Data all over again, developing himself. However, I don't think this was really needed, his very nature was enough and if Data could pick a name, why couldn't the Doctor. He and Seven are my favorite Voyager characters (and a couple of ST's best imo), but, darn it, he should've settled on a name after the first season. It just became ridiculous.

Way back in the early days, wasn't the intention to name him "Doc Zimmerman?"

Maybe he should have been called Dr. Z.

he liked Benaren, and naomi didn't have a use for it after all, which the Doctor should have rightly know since he couldn't have ignored baby wildeman's sex if he tried since he is after all the medical database.

O.

He can put M.D. after his name if he feels like it after all even if it doesn't stand for what people think it should.
