For me the TOS-TV version is still the best Enterprise- a well balance design. IT has my favorite Warp nacelles as well- big cylindrical field generators, not art deco refrigerators.

The Enterprise B is my least favorite- pointless add-ons just make it look different. I know the secondary hull had those splines added so they could have damage without altering the core model, but they look too much like a graft from the Galaxy class. I do wish they had kept those extra saucer impulse engines as shuttle hangars- they are still shown as that on the Bridges MSD. At least those would have made some sense- making them extra engines looks like Tim Allen was chief engineer.

The NX is a nice design, but that is just because I like the Akira. It does not look like an early ship- a lot of the early concepts did that well but TPTB decided to go another route.

I voted for the TOS-E because that was the first Enterprise I ever saw as a child watching reruns in the early 90s. That being said, I've found each one to be my favorite at one time or another.

On these polls, I always have to go for the 'C'. There's something about the Ambassador-Class that I love, but can't really put my finger on what exactly.

In order it'd probably be: C, A, B, TOS, E, D, D 3-nacelle, NX-01, space shuttle, aircraft carrier, sailing ship, Nu.

I was tempted to vote for one of the others, but then had to admit to myself that D was the Enterprise I grew up on and therefore I will always have a soft spot for it.

I'm not a fan of the Excelsior class at all. I always thought the point of it was to BE ugly, as an antagonist ship. Oddly, while I am not a fan of Enterprise-B, either, I think the changes made to it make it look marginally better than the Excelsior.

Design-wise, I love that it looks like an actual intermediary step between the Excelsior and the Galaxy, like an evolutionary chart.

Non-design, there's something about it that says underdog -- it's one of the least-seen designs for an Enterprise. It was spotlighted in only one episode and then had a couple cameos here and there. In that regard almost like a black sheep of the family, but the black sheep deserves some love, too.

Since first learning of ENT, I've always thought the NX-01 should have been a Daedalus class, with an NCC registry. It was a mistake to not use that design.

Enterprise D. It would be a really nice place to live and work on. Somehow I really dig offices/public buildings with grey carpets and an abundance of potted plants, so of course I'd love the Enterprise D!

The TOS enterprise...man it is so garish with its red walls and stuff...no thank you...

I agree with you that the halls, quarters and some others were pretty garish, even by 1960's standards, but I don't think you can really blame the shows creators and designers.

Remember TOS was filmed on a shoestring plus the sets had to be practical, like the hall had to be wide enough for Kirk, McCoy an Spock to all walk side by side while talking.

I'm sure if they'd had a bigger budget the sets would have been much improved, but they did the best with what the could, even if the designs and colors were tacky, and it did its job.

I suspect it's not just that -- color TV was relatively new,as well, and so there was plenty of color in TV shows of the era in order to sell them to the audience. That's why the second TOS uniforms were the more vibrant Red/Yellow/Blue, rather than the Blue and Muted Yellowish Beige that Pike and Co. wore in the pilot (but hey, it looked warm and comfy).

The TOS E in her post-pilot livery is a classic, and seeing her onscreen takes me right back to when I'd rush home from school to watch the reruns in the early 70s. The refit is sleeker, more graceful looking, and that TMP paint job just knocks me out. To me, the flyaround absolutely sells it as a real ship. I love them both equally.

But since I could only vote for one, I chose the refit.

My favorite has always been the D. I think it's the most graceful ship, and it looks comfortable to live on, though the color scheme might get boring after a while.

Second choice would probably be the NX-01, for sort of the opposite reasons -- it's all business and clearly from an earlier era. Reminds me of a sub or battleship.

I'm not trying to start a fight...I'm just genuinely interested in knowing...

Do you ever pass up an opportunity to take an underhanded jab at TOS when you write a post? I'm just curious.

For me, there is no design in the history of science fiction that bests the refit version of the USS Enterprise. Particularly in TMP, before ILM ruined that insanely beautiful paint job...the ship is just phenomenal inside and out.

My second favorite would probably be the Enterprise-D. Of all the ships, I think this would be the most fun to serve on because of the facilities and the idea that it is truly a community amongst the stars.

Holy crap! I can't believe Refit (aka TOS movie) Enterprise is leading the way! That's what I voted for, though TOS is a close second.

I was always in awe of the TMP Enterprise, with its busy corridors and expansive rec deck. Of course, the Enterprise-D looks like a hotel in space with armaments and science stations, so I would probably choose to live on the Enterprise-D, but the TOS Movie Enterprise is my favorite.

Enterprise NX-01
Hated it. Didn't even look like a pre-TOS ship

Enterprise NCC-1701 from the reboot films
Hated it. It looks like some fan's wanking idea of "awesome". Plus, it the stardrive and warp nacelles look like that teenager in the news today who is getting ap enis reduction because it's seven inches long when flaccid and ten inches in diameter. If you've seen the picture of it, that's what the stardrive and nacelles look like.

Enterprise NCC-1701 from TOS TV Show
There was never anything particularly striking about the look, but for what it was at the time and in the show, it works.

Refit Enterprise NCC-1701 from TOS films
This used to be my favorite ship.

Enterprise-B
I didn't like it. It was a needlessly modified Excelsior.

Enterprise-C
I likes this predecessor design. Why was this never seen again (that I recall)? We have Excelsior-class ships used all the time in regular use, battles, etc., but this one just vanished. Surely the Federation would have brought everyone they could into the Dominion battles.

Enterprise-D
This became my favorite new design. It's a thi9ng of beauty.

3 warp engine Enterprise-D from "All Good Things"
Enterprise-E
I didn't like it. Again, it looks like another fan's idea of a future version of a modified ship -- throw another nacelle on it and add some weapons.

And though it was not addressed:

Enterprise-F
I hate this proposed design. It looks like a crummy Enterprise-E retrofitting.

Enterprise-J
Just plain ugly. It seems after the D, the Enterprise designs just get worse and worse and worse.

Where do you suggest I see cool photos/renditions of the Enterprises F-J?

My favorite has always been the D. I think it's the most graceful ship, and it looks comfortable to live on, though the color scheme might get boring after a while...

I too would rather live on the D above the rest, but I always had a thing for how the refit nacelles look. My best version of the Enterprise would look like the Enterprise-A with the D's interior (my favorite ship overall though, by looks, would be the Miranda Class).

My favorite is the Enterprise-D, but I will always have a soft spot for Kirk's original simply because she was the first.

I guess it's a tie between the two for me.
