Best Sci-Fi/Fan Franchise LOTR, ST, or SW?

What is your favorite sci-fi/fantasy franchise of all time between these three options and why? If it is none of the above, please post which franchise it is and why?

I love all 3, but I grew up on Star Wars playing with all of the figures when I was a little kid and watching the OT dozens of times. I didn't obtain an appreciation for Star Trek until I was much older because I thought it was boring when I was a kid and didn't realize what I was missing until I was an adult. LOTR both books and films are flawless IMO, but I can't vote it my favorite because it (the films) came out when I was an adult and didn't get to appreciate it through the magic of a child's eyes. So I had to vote for SW.

They are all fantastic, but SW gets the edge for being my first SF/F franchise love and having better tie-in merchandise like LEGO sets.

Being a Trek board and all, I look for Trek to make a quick comeback. Are there any fantasy nuts out there that would vote LOTR as their fave? I would hope so, for it is a timeless classic just like the other 2 franchises.:)

LotR for me, not surprisingly as it is my favorite book... still going strong into its sixth decade. The power of JRRT's language and the depth of his characters and world are still the standard by which epic fantasy is judged.

I'd put Trek next... the sheer volume of the Trekverse overwhelms the Star Wars one, and as in the case of LotR I think the complexity and depth is a huge factor. And that's not even considering the lit aspects of both.

Full disclosure: I love the OT and hate the PT, but that's not really the point.

LOTR. Star Trek movies are hit and miss. Star Wars only had 1 really good movie out of the 6.

Other: Babylon 5

And while not as successful as any of the others listed, I have a soft spot for Andromeda. Which is why I have to wear a helmet. Well, at least that's what I tell people. Stop looking at me that way!

With the understanding that there's a world of difference between "Best" and "Favorite": ;)

Of the specific choices listed: Lord of the Rings. I have less memorabilia for it physically, but I have collected and created far more digitally.

Star Trek ... just does have it for me anymore and hasn't for some time.

Star Wars ... still a fun time to watch and share with my son, but it does not have the deep, visceral connection for me.

However, Babylon 5 is #1 for me, without question. No surprise there. Why? Because it hit at a time when I was bored with what I felt was an unending repetition in Trek. B5 struck me with a completely different look, feel and story that I still enjoy today

Don't really enjoy Star Wars much at all, and the prequel trilogy is inexcusable. LotR I enjoyed a lot but a lot of it is very ponderous and overlong. So Star Trek gets the nod from those options.

Star Wars will always be the nearest and dearest to my heart. Nothing beats lightsaber duels! I even like the Prequels and the Clone Wars toon and the many novels.

After that, Lord of the Rings.

Star Trek a distant third; it's just not as interesting a world and always feel "small". Deep Space Nine was excellent at the time but looking back on it it's a little dated.

Star Wars was my favorite as a kid, and I still like the movies. I just never feel the need to watch them anymore. Star Trek passed it up for me in my early 'teens (during TNG's heyday, and when I started watching TOS in reruns and collecting it on VHS). It's still my number one favorite.

I only started getting into Doctor Who earlier this year, but it's moving into the top three for me. Beyond that would be Battlestar Galactica and Planet of the Apes.

Not ST or SW since they're not scifi in my book. Not into fantasy, so not LotR either.

Saying that if by "franchise" one means simply a series of something based in a common universe, I can't really choose between the books.

I couldn't even get through the LOTR books, although I thought the second and third films were good.

I probably would have voted for SW were it not for the new trilogy, which was complete garbage.

As far as my personal enjoyment goes, Trek all the way. Sure, there have been some rough patches, but I'd watch Enterprise (which I HATE) over FotR or The Phantom Menace any day.

Despite the lame prequels, Star Wars is still it for movies. Star Trek for TV, definitely. LOTR just isn't a story I can really get into.

I voted Star Wars because I sorta thought this was about movies, but overall, Star Trek is the best.
