Plot Thread - Spoiler

Okay, I've read the first prequel comic and read some of the other posts about Nero being a decent man and then something happens that makes him turn bad and take it out on the galaxy. In the process, he doesn't care who he hurts. Isn't this kind of like Soren's story in Generations? Or even Khan's?

Watching the new trailer has gotten me excited. I just hope this thing is good.

Well, yes. Shinzon, too, I suppose. And I imagine that after we all see the movie, we'll be holding Nero up to comparison with that prototype for Trek mad villains, Khan. Have we finally found a villain who will out-Khan Khan? ;)

You imagine wrong.

EVERY time a Trek producer has made the claim that "this villain will be as good as Khan" they have been horribly wrong.

They tried it with Soran. Fail. Tried it with Shinzon. Double fail.

If Nero is to be any sort of good bad guy, he has to stand on his own, and not try to be "better and badder than Khan". So far, all I'm seeing is a Shinzon rip-off, only with a slightly more passionate acting job. But I'll wait to make final judgment.

But I would not, nor should I, hold up Nero to compare with Khan. You can't INTENTIONALLY capture lightning twice. When it strikes, it does so by chance, with awesome results.

Well, Khan was twenty-six years ago. If this movie is anything more than a run-and-shoot with pretensions (and that alone would beg comparisons with TWOK) it's not going to stand or fall on how nasty the villain is.

That's true. And, Abrams didn't fall into the trap others did of promoting their villian as the baddest villain since Khan.
