Seemed like an appropriate time to post this:

Not my work, not sure where I picked it up, think it was via a link I found here a few weeks ago.

No more time travel stories!

Its unfair to impose such a prohibition on any new production team. Just cause the previous lot over did it it doesn't follow that the current take will equal the same results...

Even if you change cooks, the steak is only as good as the cow it came from.

Not at all. It was a fan creation. I found it via a link from here to another Trek-related page the name of which temporarily (more like permanently) escapes me.

That's not been my experience at all. A good chef can take the most mundane of ingredients and make a divine meal out of it. As anyone who has watched any ep of Iron Chef or top Chef knows.

And my point still stands. We cannot expect newer producers to conform to such a prohibition, as its highly unfair.

Officially cheesy. This is even more fake than the rumors. No studio would ever let something that second rate out the door.

Maybe this is one advantage I have as an old Deadhead. I know when I'm being pranked.

Folks, right now we're all being pranked.

Don't make the Guardian angry. You wouldn't like it when it's angry.

Nothing more frightening than a giant angry, incredible, rampaging, vertical, swirling toilet bowl. With a deep lethargic voice.

I think it's worth noting that two of the most successful Star Trek movies, IV and First Contact, had time travel as a key element. Who it to say this could not be done well either? I have to admit I'm not thrilled with this initial idea, but I'm willing to keep an open mind to see how it's done. If they are using the Guardian, they better compensate Harlan Ellison for his work, or they will certainly deserve a law suit.

Still want to know if Gene L. Coon and Carey Wilber were afforded any credit or money for Star Trek II? I'm hard pressed to see a difference here.

I sincerely hope they were paid if they were owed money for the character Kahn being used in Star Trek II.

I'm trying to determine were the line is here, that's all. If in their case they were not and it was in no way an issue I want to understand why then other then Harlan Ellison is involved that it is some way different. See what I'm getting at? Trying to determine if this issue is simply being becoming an issue because its Ellison.

I should add. A part of me wants Ellison to both get paid and get a scree credit, only cause I'm curious as to how he'd approached the film in media circles knowing his name was attached.

Well, let's see what some memorable Trek time travel stories have been:

"City On The Edge Of Forever"
"Yesterday's Enterprise"
"Trials And Tribbleations"
"Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home"
"Star Trek: First Contact"

Clearly, nothing there that either fans liked or that was notably popular or successful with the general public. What are they thinking?
Exactly my thoughts.

There were a couple silly time travel ideas in Voyager and Enterprise, but up until that point, time travel episodes were usually a pretty good deal in Star Trek. "Endgame" and the Temporal Cold War kind of destroyed that perception among hardcore fans, but the average movie-goer won't know that--the average movie-goer probably won't care at all that it's a time travel story.

That's a good question. I too am curious to know now if they were compensated or not for Kahn's use. In Coon's case it might have been his estate that was compensated since I think he had passed away prior to TWoK?

The guardian is a very acceptable way to have another time travel story for sure. Can't wait to see the ruin city. It's gonna be awesome.

Why does it have to be TNG era? Asuming TNG era means set during that show and not 'after' nemesis, this sucks IMO, wasn't it enough that Enterprise involved the TNG era in 'These are the Vovages' IMO, it would be a far better film if set AFTER nemisis, at least in the Romulan point of view (Not meaning having to feature any of the main characters...) :(

I think it just means roughly contemporary to TNG. Not that there will be any TNG characters in the movie. On the contrary, it's almost certain there won't be. But the era is neccessary (I'm assuming) because of Nimoy's age.

The problem with this is everything that happens will by the end mean nothing cause the only way to resolve something like this, unless you plan to undo 40 years of canon is A BIG RESET BUTTON at the end.

and we all know how TREK fans feel about that button

Tell me the TOS ep or flick in which Kirk states: You know, Bones, several years ago, I was not attacked by Romulans from the future.

He said it to Sisko when he brazenly went up and asks for Kirks autograph at the end of Trials and Tribblations. You have to turn the volume up quite loud to catch it though!

Is everyone not worried at the fact this may mean it could be the last Trek movie? They're not exactly paving the way for another one, not atleast from reading the plot. IMO, it should be set after Nemesis with some rouge Romulans still hell bent on ruining the peace, sort of a LAST resort. But perhaps im just jumping the gun, I mean its not even due out for another year and im already moaning. Just guess im passionate :(
