I'm surprised that the Perfect Strangers theme works so well.

ENT is actually a pretty good show in a way. The writing is very patchy in the same way Voyager was, but the character chemistry shines through quite a bit, so the show is enjoyable in spite of that. There are many dud eps throught the first 2 seasons, so I'd suggest going for the fan favourites and recommended ones first.

Welcome to the forum. As many have said, the characterizations are fun and worth watching. They have lovely bits of writing, like The Forge, and some odd moments, but overall the series has a lot of heart. You can feel it in the delivery of lines. The actors and most of the staff really cared.

So, I grew up on TNG, got really into VOY when it aired on Spike a few years ago, and enjoyed all the TOS movies and most of the episodes. However, I never got into DS9 or ENT. I'd like to start watching one of those series now and don't know which one to pick. So you all are the ENT fans, please tell me why I will love it. I'm going to post a similar thread in the DS9 forum. Thanks in advance.

Watch this. If it doesn't make you tear up, just a little bit, there's something wrong with you. That and there was a Trip/T'Pol video set to Coldplay's "The Scientist", but I can't seem to find it on YouTube just now.

Just bumping this up to add one more overview video. It took me a while to find it. I think the vid creator posted/posts here but I don't remember his handle. Every episode is represented, in order. It's quite amazing, and never fails to make me want to put in the DVDs.

So, I've now watched the first four episodes and I like this show quite a bit. (I LOVED Broken Bow.) T'Pol has chemistry with Archer and Trip both at this point (I'm already spoiled for how that works out, but I guess I never realized there was ever even a possibility of someone else). The aliens so far are interesting and the stories have a lot more action than Voyager, which was heavier on button pushing and technobabble. The obvious ploys for sex appeal (decon gel, anyone?) are totally contrived, but they somehow work anyway. I like Hoshi a lot. Malcolm and Travis seem nice but haven't had much to do. Phlox is a little reminiscent of Neelix from Voyager, and I don't like that. Perky aliens really aren't my thing. I really like the interesting early dynamic between the humans and the Vulcans. The Klingons are amusing.

I especially love that the humans aren't so "Starfleet" yet. They're real, normal people with hangups and fears and all the rest of it. They're not so uptight and sanctimonious. Because of this, the show feels more emotionally real than TNG or Voyager by a long shot.

Anyway, two thumbs up so far. Thanks for the sales pitch.

As for Phlox, don't worry, he isn't always "perky." John Billingsley is a superb actor and he'll get plenty serious in coming episodes.

To fully understand how we feel about "These are the Voyages" you really need to watch the entire four seasons and then watch "These are the Voyages". That is is the only way you will be able to appreciate the huge turd that episode truly is.

Rent the DVD and enjoy the ride, Enterprise is great.

Dip a toe into the water and take a look at these "Next Time..." previews. I always thought Enterprise's first season stood head and shoulders above TNG or VOY and set up the premise equally as good as DS9. But then I've always had a soft spot for the retro look of this show. Its less advanced tech was certainly more realistic of a future era, than say... passing off an old water reclaimation plant as a device that violates the laws of motion.

My only disappointment remains those lingering questions about the Temporal Cold War. Star Trek writers often over-reached themselves with massive concepts like that, not exploiting them to the full and leaving fans to theorise what the motives for opposing sides actually were. The Suliban were also quite interesting and their predicament with the Tandarans. Often intriguing storylines led nowhere and deserved more than being left as a dead ends.

As a finale to a series, it gave surprisingly little importance to that show's main characters. Skip ahead 5 years and you would expect some personal developments, especially given this point in history. No hint of the Romulan War, which must surely have happened in those offscreen years. There were minor alterations to the uniforms and the bridge... but nothing appeared to have happened to the crew. It doesn't work, especially by the new standard set during Season 4. That year the characters were really grooving off each other. A main character's romance with another got serious... even slightly mystical. In "These are the Voyages..." it's like all that never happened and suddenly everybody is giving each other the cold shoulder treatment. It even falls flat compared to their first outing - Broken Bow. Back then the sparks really used to fly and their dialog had punch. The cancellation must really have knocked the wind out of Berman and Braga, because they just seemed to stop caring... maybe already concentrating on other projects while writing this. Enterprise just gave up the ghost and accepted the inevitable without a struggle.
