Plans for any more Kelvinverse novels?

That said, any novels written before a 4th film (if there ever is one) may wish to steer clear of creating stories that are life-altering. (Not that that ever stopped previous authors from doing so, or previous TOS screenwriters, for that matter - plenty of trauma that's laughed off and forgotten next episode. I say "may" because some would like their works to have a long "possibly canon" shelf life.)

Novelists working with a currently airing series generally are expected to avoid telling stories that alter the characters' status quo in any major way; we have to "put the toys back in the box" at the end. It's only the books written after the end of a series that have the freedom to make major changes, and of course those get ignored if the series starts up again.

I have yet to read the two tie-ins (one I've borrowed from the library, the other is a pending hold).

Is it premature to ask for others?

And because plans for a 4th movie are up in the air - even if their reason isn't not wanting to steal a storyline from that possible film, any possible stories might be put on hold until such time as interest in KEL tie-ins would peak; namely, around the release of a new film.

Possible Kelvin novel plot threads

*Aftermath of Nero's attack - Vulcan influence or lack of same in the Federation
*Kirk and Carol's relationship
*McCoy's divorce and possible daughter
*Sulu's family
*Spock and Uhura's relationship
*Jaylah's Starfleet education and career
*Vulcan's restoration
*Section 31 activities regarding Khan
*Chekhov's further career (given the actor's death)
*Implications of existence of Khan blood revival serum
*Spock and Sarek's relationship
*Yorktown rebuild
*Sulu's aspirations for command
*Spock's "child of two worlds" balancing act
*Scotty and Keenser's working relationship
*Spock Prime's legacy
*Kirk's post-revival recovery - physical and psychological (one year between death and his speech at the memorial)
*Kirk's family issues - mom/stepdad, brother
*Kirk's criminal record pre-Starfleet
*Kirk's relationship with surrogate father/mentor Pike
*Starfleet Academy schooldays
*Other events beside Teenaxi incident that have become "episodic"
*USS Kelvin/Robau adventures
*George and Winona Kirk's relationship/careers
*Sarek and Amanda's relationship/careers
*Carol's relationship with her mother and father
*Alexander Marcus's relationship with Pike
*Marcus finding Khan and working with him
*Use/abuse/study of the Abronath and energy transference (life-sucking Altamid tech)

(I realize many of these have been dealt with in comics - I'm making a list for possible tie-in novel threads specifically)

Can anybody think of any other threads from the 3 movies?

Remember when that prequel movie was canned in 1991ish, and Pocket came out with Enterprise: The First Adventure and the book cover said something daft like, "the story the movies wouldn't let you see!"?

1986. "Now, the untold story -- Captain Kirk's first mission!" [Cover copy, "Enterprise: The First Adventure".]

Nothing to do with Harve Bennett's proposed canned prequel movie about "Starfleet Academy" that was replaced on the schedule by "ST VI: The Undiscovered Country" when he departed Paramount.

So I think most of these are probably generic enough that they don't count as story ideas, but some seems a little more specific, so I have spoiler-coded everything to be safe.

Just a reminder that posting story ideas is not allowed.

I tried to make them generic - focusing on things that were said/shown to be true. Just looking at the list, does anything else come to mind?

That's the copy I had from my Dad as well

Ah, I might be confusing my first encounter with it with the actual publication date.

If, magically, Paramount got its poop together and made a fourth Kelvin movie in time for the 20th anniversary of the first one, and if it was a success, then we might see Kelvin novels again. That is, if anyone is still publishing Star Trek novels in 2029.

I believe you're conflating Enterprise: The First Adventure with DC's Star Trek Annual #2 by Peter David, James K. Fry III, and Curt Swan in 1991. The cover for the annual had a blurb something like the one you remember. The story was about Kirk at Starfleet Academy.

In any case, I imagine they were just re-framing certain fans' desired movie plot as something they were deliberately deprived of rather than simply unrealized. It's more dramatic that way.

That's the one! I mixed up details, apologies everyone.
