Plan 9 from Outer Space Strikes Again!

Yesterday I bought a copy of Plan 9 from Outer Space Strikes Again!, a new one-shot, comic-book sequel to Ed Wood's 1950s film Plan 9 from Outer Space. I love Plan 9. I've probably watched it at least as many times as I've watched any movie except Star Wars. I had no high expectations for the comic, in part because I've been less than impressed by the recent trend in stretching stories across several issues for eventual reprinting as a graphic novel. I should also point out that I haven't been a regular collector or reader of comic books in about 15 years.

The comic fell flat. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it, and I didn't especially like it. I finished reading it and thought, "So?" I have to admit that I've had the same impression of most comics that I've read in recent years.

Has anyone else read this yet? What did you think?

I basically had the same reaction that you did, I LOVE the movie and when I saw the comic at the comic book store i snatched it up, read it and....Eh..it was ok didnt really do anything for me

I am honest to God flabbergasted that Hollywood has not remade Plan 9. I would have thought Burton and Depp would be all over it.

At teh very least Will "Moviewhore" Ferrill.

That would be a tough movie to remake. Mostly in terms of "how the hell do you remake it?" Do you intentionally make it bad (and, if so, why?)? Turn it into a comedy (and, if so, how do you not make it fall flat)? Do you try to actually try to turn it into a good movie (and, if so, wouldn't that defeat the purpose?)?

Anything like that will likely fall flat, because it's trying to create on purpose what the original film did so beautifully (and by accident) by very sincerely trying to create a good movie.

I'll believe in a remake when I see it... and then I probably still wouldn't believe it.

I'm not convinced that guy's remake is a good idea, but it is touching to see someone hoping to redeem Ed Wood's original vision. It makes me want to root for this remake to be as good as possible.
