Pike's 8 years before SNW

F. King Daniel

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
So according to screengraphics in Discovery's "Brother", Pike was Enterprise captain for a whopping 7 years prior to Discovery season two and 8 years before SNW season one.

I find it a bit odd they've never done any flashback stories or references to that era (of even before, with Pike as first officer under Captain April), and that SNW was set so close to the time frame of TOS. What was Pike and the Enterprise up to all that time? I guess the Early Voyages comics can sort-of be squeezed in, as well as Pike's adventures in various old novels. But it's weird they treat it as if his tenure pretty much began in Disco/SNW.

If you go by Q&A, Pike was already the most heavily decorated fighting captain in Starfleet in 2253. Meaning between when he took command in 2250 till 2253 he must have done some serious fighting with the Enterprise even though Trek hasn't canonically established any wars during this timeframe. Furthermore this claim that he's the most heavily decorated fighting captain isn't mentioned anywhere in SNW, as you think every opponent Pike meets would be fleeing at the mere mention of his name.

SNW kind of steamrolled a lot of the Early Voyages comics, namely the Rigel incident (the comics version was arguably better), Pike's father being a Starfleet man instead of a religious civilian, shady Robert April (and also he looks like in TAS not SNW obviously)

How many flashbacks did TOS do?
IIRC, "Lift Us Up Where Suffering Cannot Reach" refers back to Pike's earlier career.

I would love to see more flashbacks, or even an episode set on April's Enterprise, but I get that with limited episodes per season there is not much time for that. If they did that, then they would have to forgo a Kirk or Spock comedy episode. Hopefully we'll get a "Cage"-era flashback episode that brings back those characters.
