Pickard and Janeway...

2 of 10

Captain
Captain
Every Trek series besides "Enterprise" first episode has had some link to a previous Trek series, to bring a sense of continuity to the new series. TNG brought a very old Dr McCoy (TOS) to the New Enterprise, TNG has Pickard had meeting on DS-9 with Lt Sisko, Voyager was docked at DS-9 on it's way to the Badlands, The scene was in Quarks bar with Harry being scammed by Quark, and Tom coming to help out. That was all well and good, however, I wish that they had Sisko meeting Janeway in that episode also, it would not have had to be some great meeting of minds, just one Capt talking to another Capt. Besides that brief scene in Nemisis I don't believe that Pickard ever met Janeway, I think they should have used the first episode of Voyager to get the two together, any thoughts??

I actually think the inclusion of Picard in Emissary was a bad idea. McCoy was a small cameo from the 'third actor' from TOS, just like Quark didn't overshadow things in Caretaker. Picard was too big for DS9, especially as O'Brien was included anyway.

I was always hoping someone from Voyager would appear in ENT's Broken Bow but was sadly disappointed.

And look what happened to THAT series.

:)

We didn't see them meet anywhere on the show, but I felt from the tone of their conversation that it wasn't the first.

There didn't any real reason for Sisko to meet with Janeway on DS9 as to Voyager DS9 is simply just a resting point between Earth and the DMZ. What would Sisko have to talk to her about?

Carols: Here's the thing -- Picard's appearance in Emissary was integral to the story, as he represented Wolf 359's tragic impact on Sisko's life, as that's where he lost his wife, Jennifer. And as demonstrated in the story, he hadn't moved on from that trauma. It took him trying to explain linear existence to the wormhole aliens, and their insistence he wasn't living up to that idea, to shock him into moving on. His appearance wasn't a throwaway cameo, like McCoy's or mentioning Quark. -- RR

I have no problem with Picard's involvement in the pilot episode, I just wish it had been less (IE a different story).

But that was an important part of the pilot's depiction of the character - Sisko had effectively stopped after Wolf 359. He wasn't going forward, he was staying in that one period. The change Sisko undergoes in that episode is very obvious with Picard because in the first meeting he's still blaming Picard for the death of his wife. In the second, he's begun to move on and has stopped viewing Picard as his wife's murderer. Had the story taken place in a later episode, it wouldn't have been the same, since Sisko's experience with the Prophets is where the realization of what he's doing comes from.

As I stated in my post, not some epic meeting of minds, however, I would think that whenever a Federation Star-Ship docks at DS-9 as a matter of protocal unless he was otherwise indisposed of, the Capt/Commander of the station would meet with the Capt of the Star-Ship as a matter of respect. Just a Capt to Capt short meeting, nothing more, nothing less...

I like those kinds of meetings, shows that they DO talk to each other, that they're either old comrades in arms, or that they went to the academy together (more generally speaking). They did something like that in a n early TNG episode, where a few captains came together and had a meeting about whether starfleet command had been compromised. I forget which one.
I would have liked voyager to stick around near DS9 for a few episodes as a temporary posting before going to chase after Chakotay etc etc. You would have had two crews interacting more, and would have given the chance to see Sisko and Janeway plotting the downfall of Picard!!
