I get an impression that most Ezri fans are men and that they don't like Jadzia because she was a strong character who didn't play the girly role. I suspect Kira isn't popular with them either.

To be fair to Deckerd, I can see how one might get that impression. I've had same one too, but happy to be disproven. But it is just that. An impression, and not necessarily a statistical fact.

I mean all that "I'm one person, no I'm another person, no I'm another person" routine got so STFU after a while. Then there was the space sickness and then the whole rubbish at her job thing and the whole why is she there at all? question since the last thing she should have done is go back to DS9. I get that she's cute as all hell but she had none of the chutzpah of Jadzia, who even when she made mistakes didn't whine about it.

You're talking about things from the first few episodes. Jadzia was her usual arragont self for 6 seasons.

This I suspect has more truth than many would like to admit.

Me personally, I far prefer Jadzia over Ezri. The young, naive and impressionable young woman can be cool but after a while that gets old and tiresome and that's what Ezri was.

Also, why was Jadzia split in two?

Are you the same person as you were this time last year, last month or even yesterday Nerys Ghemor? People change, from what we do and what we experience, so separating Jadzia like you did is highly misguided and unjustified.

I personally never thought I would have a loving relationship and nothing beyond a bit of fun, but now I'm with someone I want to spend my life with, is it that hard to realise and comprehend that Jadzia did change and her world view changed with it.

Jadzia all the way. I like both Spock Jadzia and Party Girl Jadzia. I think I find Nicole de Boer more attractive, but Ezri as a character I always found annoying, precocious and -yes- whiny.
Imagine that little fightercraft scene in "The Siege" with Ezri. Or "Rejoined". or "Blood Oath". That would have been so awful.

Jadzia, in any form has my vote. Smart, strong, and fun. No wonder she is my wife's favorite character. Ezri was too "girly girl" for my taste. Also, her voice makes me think she is whining all the time even if she isn't suppose to be.

I really loved Jadzia, she was my fav female Trek character. When Ezri first came into the show I was furious, and thought of her as a poor Jadzia substitute. However in time I grew to love her probably as much as Jadzia. She is completely different to Jadzia but has her own wonderful qualities. I've grown to like them equally.

...and one thing that's occurred to me time and again is how much I love Jadzia. She's smart, kind, wise, and funny. It never occurred to me that she's arrogant, but if she is then I suppose it never bothered me.

I'm really shocked that it's not hands down Jadzia love though. She's one of my favorite Trek characters!

:techman: QFT!

Liked Jadzia, hated Kira.

Err, I love Kira and I love Ezri, and I didn't mind "Old man" Jazdia, but the KPG Jazdia got on my nerves. not that I hated Jazdia, but ezri had a lot more room to grow, was less annoying, and a girl you could marry, while KPG Jazdia was a one night stand if you like those sort of things.

Oh look the same tired old Jadzia bashing. At least nobody's called her a slut yet, that's always so delightful.

Don't worry. Jadzia is many things, but she's not a "slut".

BTW...I think something should be said, frankly, about "the same tired old Ezri bashing"--that she's "annoying" (ah...to be blunt, there isn't a single character in all of Trek that isn't going to be found "annoying" by people, the term is so subjective--post-Blood-Oath Jadzia apparently is quite annoying to, say, my friend Nerys--or Distorted Humor, as you see above); that she's "whiny" (to be blunt...so was Kira for the first season--and many times afterward!); that her voice is whiny (please, might as well say Natalie Portman has a "whiny" voice; it isn't that different from Ezri's, to be honest)...and so on.

At least nobody's called her physically "boyish" yet!

...

I was relieved to get away from Jadzia'a "well, I've been a man and I've been a woman," or "well, I've been a husband and I've been a wife." Man, that got old.

While I love Ezri, I saw this star trek series after having seen Nicole de Boer in "Cube," so I always thought they should have cast her as a borg character instead of trill. (j/k) :borg:

When I first saw the trill in TNG, I thought they were an awesome new species of alien and hoped to see more of them in Star Trek. However, after DS9, I wonder if they just make for too awkward an element to manage when they are placed in one of the main character roles...

Oh yeah, and physically, Ezri is pretty darn boyish.

Clearly Worf disagreed. ;)

I haven't been around enough of these conversations to know what sort of bashing takes place, but I do find the comments about Ezri and Jadzia to be interesting. It does feel like there's this issue of femininity that's at the core for a lot of people. I find it somewhat disturbing how much that plays into many of the preferences here.

For the record....

I love Kira and I love Ezri, but I can't stand Jadzia.

The fact that she's a strong-willed, independent woman has nothing to do with my dislike. Kira is also a strong-willed, independent woman and I love her for it. However, Kira doesn't come across as condescending, arrogant and self-absorbed the way Jadiza does. That's what I can't stand about her.

Shran, that's a good explanation of the difference between Kira and Jadzia. I'd even say Kira is more strong-willed than Jadzia, but I like her better, between those two.

This thread is astonishing. I make some casual observations which are immediately taken as stone cold declarations and has lots of people checking their genitalia and then going quite pink with anger.

^Well...consider the implications of the suggestion. The idea that we don't like Jadzia for being strong--therefore, we like Ezri for (allegedly) not being strong--therefore, we prefer women who are not strong, because they are not strong--therefore, we prefer women to be weak.

That is an...unfortunate mindset to possess.

Indeed, First off that "impression" says that Esri is weak, when the reality is that she is a badass that hunts down serial killers if need be, and survived AR-558 ground fighting.

The second thing is that then the assumtion that I don't like strong women, but I do, and just that I adore Ezri, doesn't mean Jadzia is chopped meat. Ezri (and Kira for that matter) are both women that i would love to get down to the temple and get sealed (married) to, while Jadzia less so.
