Which Dax do you prefer?

Ezri (of course!). I'm not sure there's much left to add as to why.

I really do wish, though, that they'd switched Daxes halfway through the show instead of just for the last season.

I voted Ezri, but only Ezri as seen in the series. Ezri from the novels turned into a bit of a bitchy know-it-all really.

So much so that Julian eventually seems to have to walk on eggshells in order to call her out when she needs it.

Once again, it's as if the writers couldn't get over the fact that Jadzia is dead, that Ezri's a different character, and that she wanted to set herself apart from her previous hosts.

Of course, Avatar on, she decides to throw that out the window, and absorb past hosts into herself. In This Grey Spirit, she's shocked into realizing that it's going too far...but then the arrogance and over-integration suddenly erupts again in Unjoined. (It briefly surfaces before that, in Unity, when she seems ticked off at Julian worrying for her safety.)

*sigh* Well--here's hoping...

Dittos on that, TBH. Or at least, intoduce Ezri Tigan early on--befriending Julian (perhaps upon helping out O'Brien in "Hard Time"), it deepens...and when Jadzia dies, Ezri has to take the symbiont. Julian helps her cope with this...and here, their romance blossoms....

^Again...what do people mean when they say that?

One could say she "whines" a bit in "Shadows And Symbols" and "Afterimage"...but after that, it's basically over with!

I mean all that "I'm one person, no I'm another person, no I'm another person" routine got so STFU after a while. Then there was the space sickness and then the whole rubbish at her job thing and the whole why is she there at all? question since the last thing she should have done is go back to DS9. I get that she's cute as all hell but she had none of the chutzpah of Jadzia, who even when she made mistakes didn't whine about it.

Hmm...I don't recall any of that happening after "Afterimage"--aside from a few remarks about past events in "Prodigal Daughter"....

Hmm...I don't understand what you mean by "rubbish at her job". As for "why is she there"...well, I'd imagine a counselor is quite necessary, espectially during wartime. And as Sisko noted, he couldn't think of anyone better suited for the job.

As for the space sickness...well, I personally never found it irritating--let alone "whiny". But to each his own.

I get that she's cute as all hell but she had none of the chutzpah of Jadzia, who even when she made mistakes didn't whine about it.

Hmm...again, not sure what you mean about that. I'd think self-reflection after mistakes is actually quite healthy--but again, she only flat-out "whined" about her mistakes in "Afterimage", in the "resignation" scene.

But hey--YMMV, as they say.

You're talking about things from the first few episodes. Jadzia was her usual arragont self for 6 seasons.

It's a bit unfair to split Jadzia, IMO. However, she's holding her own, so fair's fair I suppose.

She's so different pre- and post-"Blood Oath" that I consider her to be two different characters, almost. I wanted to see how all three different personalities did, if separated that way.

I admit, I also wanted to see the extent to which post-"Blood Oath" Jadzia Dax got on people's nerves, and see what would happen if people were offered two different options, not only Ezri.

+1

For what it's worth, I liked Dick York's portrayal of Darren Stevens, much more than Dick Sergent's version.

First time around I preferred Jadzia, but I think that was simply young lust.

Since then I've come to prefer Ezri, much for the same reasons as everyone else. She also changed a bit. Yes, she did whine a little in the beginning, but she got over it so I feel there could have been so much more further character development that we never got the chance to see. (But with most of DS9 I felt there were more stories that could've been told.)

But also I wished "Invasive Procedures" could've been a two parter, because then we would've had the chance to see more of Jadzia alone, as well as learning more about the Dax symbiont and Trill joinings. Verad changed after he'd forced Julian to put Dax inside him, and I just would've liked to have seen a little more of that.

I get an impression that most Ezri fans are men and that they don't like Jadzia because she was a strong character who didn't play the girly role. I suspect Kira isn't popular with them either.

Yoda:"Do not assume anything, Obi-Wan. Clear, your mind must be. Hmm. Yes!"

Kira is a dang good character--and I admire her greatly. I simply like Ezri most of all. Frankly...she's a strong character herself--many of her best moments involved her calling out Worf, when he needed it. She called him a coward, to his face!

Ezri is "strong" when she has to be. She takes charge when she needs to. The fact that she is naturally warm and nurturing hardly makes her "weak" and "girly" (whatever that means).

Do not assume, madam, that "arrogance" means "strength" (often, quite the opposite), or that "femininity" means "weakness". Indeed...that is a lesson that Kira found herself learning throughout the entire series.

I didn't know I had male parts. That's news to me.

And I didn't know I wasn't allowed to be a big fan of Kira at the same time as I'm a fan of Ezri.

Oh look the same tired old Jadzia bashing. At least nobody's called her a slut yet, that's always so delightful.

I voted "love them both equally." I might give a slight preference to Ezri, but Jadzia - all of Jadzia is great IMO. Whether she was "taken over" by Curzon, or by the symbiont, or simply truly integrated the Curzon personality better as she went along.

Wow.... just....wow..... Talk about comments without any real basis in reality.
I don't like Jadzia because she's an arrogant know it all, always talking about how she has experienced everything and knows how everybody must be feeling. She's like Oprah!
I love Kira as a character because she is a strong, independent woman, who later in life learns that there is more in life then hardship, learns to love on a deep emotional level, embraces her femininity but still remains a strong independent woman.

Oh, and shock and horror..... I do have a penis.

I don't even know what episode you're referring to and I didn't notice a huge change, so I just picked pre-Blood Oath Jadzia. I suppose with all the fuss, I'll have to go check out which episode it is. I've been going through DS9 season by season since I don't think I've seen all the eps and certainly not in the right order, and one thing that's occurred to me time and again is how much I love Jadzia. She's smart, kind, wise, and funny. It never occurred to me that she's arrogant, but if she is then I suppose it never bothered me.

Ezri may have only whined the first few episodes but that's what dominates my mental image of her as well. Well not so much whiny as just ... timid and annoying. I'm at the ep where Jadzia dies (can't bring myself to watch it) so we'll see, maybe rewatching the last season will leave me with a different impression.

I'm really shocked that it's not hands down Jadzia love though. She's one of my favorite Trek characters!
